Job Goal: The Math Coordinator of Instruction and Curriculum Gr. PreK-12 is a specially prepared professional responsible for student's academic performance in general education and struggling students in particular within their schools. In addition, the Math Coordinator of Instruction and Curriculum will provide instruction and curriculum support for members of the school community.
The Math Coordinator will work closely with the Principals, the Superintendent, teachers, and parents to accomplish the district's curriculum, assessment, and instructional goals. The Math Coordinator of Instruction and Curriculum's full-time job is to improve instruction in the school and support consistent delivery of aligned curriculum across the district. This individual will not have direct classroom duties; this is an administrative contract for the school year with additional days added.Reports to: Superintendent Performance Responsibilities: Professional DevelopmentEstablish clear professional development goals aligned to the district's strategic plan.Collaborating with principals, assist teachers in formulating their professional development and curriculum development goals.Coach teachers as they implement evidence-based instructional practices associated with core, supplemental, and intervention curricula and instructional approaches.Support the alignment of the core program in all content areas with district professional development.Develop program-specific professional development in the Science of Reading.Support implementation of effective reading and writing instruction and academic vocabulary instruction across all content areas through professional development, lesson modeling, and curriculum and lesson materials.Provide feedback during coaching on effective instructional strategies, including concrete suggestions for improvements, especially related to strategies and methods for working with struggling students and students who have accelerated beyond the content area. Collaborating with principals to co-facilitate and lead Common Planning Time (CPT) work groups to discuss the research, share experiences implementing recommended practices, examine student work and assessment data, and support curriculum and professional development goals.Facilitate data meetings with high school and middle school teams/departments and grade level teams using standards aligned common assessments.Act as a catalyst for building a school learning community that focuses on integrated learning and building connections across grades and buildings.Design, create, and oversee a peer mentoring support network, including opportunities for teachers to visit one another's classrooms to observe the implementation of specified practices.AssessmentCoach teachers as they analyze assessment data to identify students who are making adequate progress or those in need of substantive intervention or academic acceleration.Coach teachers on using assessment data to modify instruction for individuals and groups of students.Work with principals to coordinate assessment collection and analysis.Curriculum and InstructionLead a review of current curriculum materials and materials under consideration for purchase for evidence of culturally responsive curriculum and appropriate and accurate representation of people, cultures, ethnicities, and gender. Review materials under consideration for purchase for evidence of alignment with the district's perspectives on explicit and sequential instruction.Collaborating with the high school principal to support and oversee all Department Heads and curriculum leaders and provide annual written observations yearly.*Know how to use various effective strategies, analyze instruction, and provide clear, specific information on strategy implementation.School LiaisonMeet regularly with the Superintendent, Principal, and others to assess the district's academic program's progress and modify elements as necessary.Assist in analyzing district-wide curriculum and instruction, assess the strengths and weaknesses, and formulate plans to improve student achievement and instructional effectiveness.Participate in school improvement planning activities.Work collaboratively with the Superintendent to support the implementation of SIP.Work to create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the achievement of all students.Observation & EvaluationProvide observation feedback to educators. Serve as a secondary evaluator for educators and contribute to the evaluation of teachers and teaching assistants.Qualification Requirements: The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, and ability to perform this job successfully.
The candidate must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 1. Master's Degree in education, a content area, or educational leadership2. Prior experience in leadership roles3.
Licensure as a building administrator/superintendent/assistant superintendent 4. Knowledge of Common Core and Rhode Island Standards.5. Deep understanding of scientifically based instruction, research, and evidence-based practices for teaching reading and writing. 6.
Knowledge of best practices for assessing student progress toward achievement of standard.7. A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience.8. Experience as an academic coach or mentor preferred.9. Proven success as a professional development provider and curriculum developer.10.
Excellent communication skills.11.
