The Segments

We organized our business into two primary segments, which enables us to provide our customers with both the hardware and software solutions that make the world more safe, green, and connected:

Signal and Power Solutions -. This segment provides technologies that serve as the vehicle's nervous system, including the complete design, manufacture, and assembly of its electrical architecture. This segment's products include engineered components, connectors, wiring assemblies, harnesses, cable management, electrical centers, and hybrid high voltage and safety distribution systems. Our products provide the critical signal distribution and computing power backbone supporting increased vehicle content and electrification, reduced emissions, and higher fuel economy.

Advanced Safety & User Experience—This segment provides software-enabled solutions that serve as the vehicle's brain, improving safety, security, connectivity, and comfort. Products include; scalable active safety, in-cabin user experience systems, compute platforms for security, comfort, control functions, and on/off vehicle data management and communication solutions. The segment also works closely with Motional, Aptiv's automated mobility on demand (AMoD) joint venture with Hyundai.

Summary Role Description:

  • As a Category Manager you will have direct influence on business results with all of Aptiv’s business sectors. You will be responsible for one key technology within the semiconductor global category team . In this role, you will define the supply and sourcing strategy and lead supplier relationships.You will have global scope that includes providing guidance to the global buyer team as they negotiate and implement the supply strategy.

You will reporting to the Category Director, and play an integral role in the Strategic Sourcing organization. Aptiv operates a customer focused matrix structure, in which there is an Electronics Category team of circa 100 people.

Candidate profile:

The successful candidate will possess proven experience in global category management in organizations going through high growth periods. She/he will be a broad-based leader who possesses a strong combination of technical savvy and strategic skills. Specific experience in semiconductors and other electronics will be key to success in this role. The ideal candidate will demonstrate key functional competencies in; strategy development, partnering with Design / Engineering at early stage product development planning, scheduling control, supply chain management, project management, lean management, enabling technology application, process improvement/ six sigma.

A strong focus on customer satisfaction, sense of urgency and bias for action are unwavering requirements for this role. This Leader will be value driven with a focusing on building positive relationships. She/ he will be a leader who has the technical expertise and credibility to operate in a fast-paced and highly demanding environment where they will devise and implement long-term category strategies

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop purchasing strategy in support of the corporate strategy and aggressive growth plans
  • Deliver world-class customer satisfaction levels in quality, on-time delivery, supplier service level and lowest component cost across similar industry
  • Responsible for the spend for the categories within your scope
  • Managing large semiconductor suppliers
  • Develop a positive working environment in- line with Aptiv’s values..
  • Apart from improvements in purchasing, the most important priorities in the coming 3-5-year period include:
  • Participate actively in driving category strategy with strong cross functional collaboration with Engineering, Commercial and Manufacturing teams.
  • Ensuring Secure Capacity & Supply of electronic components under assigned categories.
  • Reduce Supply cost base through organizational streamlining, cost transparency and procurement optimization.
  • Improve customer delivery service and reduce working capital through complexity reduction, CAPEX review and logistics optimization.
  • The KPIs for this role are outlined as follows:
  • Building long term Strategies & Partnerships to ensure security of supply.
  • Cash optimization
  • Cost reduction
  • Future category strategy
  • Supplier quality
  • Value engineering

Background, Experience as Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business, or similar qualification; higher qualification (i.e. MBA) is preferred
  • At least 10 years of experience in procurement in electronics
  • Experience in purchasing subject components, preferably in the Automotive industry
  • Access to best industry practice, industry trends, and supply/demand and thorough understanding of products
  • Ability to create and promote best in class category strategies by integrating market with Aptiv product line objectives
  • Skills to analyse supplier financial information and capability
  • Ability to travel both locally and globally (approximately 20-30% of working time)
  • Comfortable leading in a matrix environment.
