Description
The Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst or Senior GIS Analyst (depending on experience) is responsible for providing GIS services to external and/or internal clients in a shared services environment. Work will focus on supporting Environmental Services projects. The GIS Analyst works closely with interdisciplinary project teams to provide high-quality deliverables.
Prior experience in the delivery of major GIS projects, particularly in the field of environmental resources, is beneficial in qualifying for this role. Current projects conducted out of the Salt Lake City office with a heavy GIS component include: electric transmission line siting, permitting, and construction; mining and renewable energy resources (i.e., solar, wind) permitting and baseline assessments; and environmental assessment and site monitoring (related to wildlife, protected lands, cultural resources, etc.)
Your Opportunity
This is an exciting full-time position working within our Environmental Services business operating unit. Position can be remote, within close proximity to one of the following locations; Salt Lake City, UT; St. George, UT; Boise, ID; Denver, CO.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Develop effective figures, maps, and geospatially related metric tables, that clearly communicate subject data and analysis results
- Manage GIS components for large projects, including product delivery schedules (e.g., figures, shapefiles, etc.), file organization and tracking, and discipline-specific resources (e.g., GNSS-enabled tablets)
- Prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments with concurrent schedules
- Perform routine and complex geospatial analyses in support of project needs
- Research, capture, and maintain enterprise and project-specific datasets
- Interface with corporate GIS practice technology group to understand, deploy, and enforce national and regional discipline standards
- Implement local program procedures and standards for data storage and transmittal, and cartographic production
- Perform work accurately with the highest emphasis on detail and quality
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with an inter-disciplinary group of internal staff (e.g., project managers, other GIS professionals, and field staff)

Extensive knowledge and experience in GIS, including
- Geospatial analysis
- Figure production
- Field data collection and post-processing
- Geodatabase design and maintenance
- GIS administration
- Demonstrated experience managing environmental-related GIS project data
- Passion for and understanding of the fields of geography, cartography, and natural resources
- Passion for technical excellence in GIS-product delivery
- Standout cartographer
- Inherent problem-solver
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with Python/automation is an asset
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset
- Detail-oriented individual with ability to effectively execute concurrent multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of quality

Education and Experience
- Bachelors or an advanced degree in GIS, environmental science, geology, geomatics engineering, geotechnical engineering, or related field with demonstrated GIS training
- A minimum of 5 - 7 years of professional applied experience providing GIS services
- Experience with web applications and mobile GIS, especially Esri ArcGIS Pro and Esri Field Maps is required
- Specific experience within the Natural Resources and/or Environmental Services business sector will be considered a strength but is not required
- Prior experience within a consulting environment is preferred but is not required
- Advanced Web App Development experience would be valuable but is not required
- Intermediate to Advanced Python scripting skills would be valuable but is not required
- Advanced data management experience (Server, SDE, SQL) would be beneficial but not required
Licensing/Certifications
- GISP is an asset but not required
