An exciting opportunity has arisen for an DevOps Lead Engineer to join our team.
Rolls-Royce specialises in the design and integration of complex systems to create products for a range of industries, notably aerospace, nuclear and defence. The Control Systems department you will join works on the critical control and monitoring for all these. Your work will address the urgent need for a net zero carbon world.
Our business is engaged in a transformation project to introduce modelling and automation to continuously improve the quality and functionality of our products. We have created a domain-specific graphical modelling workbench and integration environment using open-source technologies. This is used to develop our safety and security critical engine control software.
We are embarking on an exciting new project that has recently received 4 years funding to migrate our workbench from a desktop environment to a cloud-based platform. As a DevOps Lead Engineer you will design, test and deploy this platform. You will directly influence the design using state of the art tools and technologies. You will have the opportunity to directly influence the design using state of the art tools and technologies. You will have the opportunity to work with experienced engineers and academics- the project will involve collaboration with a leading university. You will work within a scrum framework and participate in continuous refinement of the backlog and scrum ceremonies.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Lead the design, test and deployment of a cloud-based platform to develop safety and security critical engine control software – become the Product Owner of this “greenfield” project.
  • Develop new processes, architectures, and ways of working.
  • Continuously improve on the cost and quality of our products.
Who we’re looking for:

Essential
  • Familiar with agile software development methodologies and principles
  • Experienced with core Java and functional Java (streams, lambdas etc.) development
  • Strong scripting and integration skills
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks (JUnit) and Java build tools such as Maven
  • Knowledge of software modelling (in languages such as UML)
  • Familiar with AWS or Azure cloud platform
  • Strong version control skills with tools such as git
  • Appreciation of DevSecOps principles
  • Understanding of CI/CD and build engineering
  • Cloud Technologies – Kubernetes, Docker
  • Experience working as a team leader
Desirable
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, including development of YAML pipelines
  • Knowledge or experience of Typescript/Javascript
  • Knowledge or experience with deployment systems such as Kubernetes
  • Infrastructure As A Service (IAAS)
