VP of Purchasing Job at Drummond Press Inc
Summary:
Obtains purchased items by:
1. Selecting and qualifying vendors,
2. Placing orders to suppliers,
3. Monitoring and expediting orders,
4. Verifying receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered,
5. Resolving shipments in error with suppliers, and
6. Authorizing payment for purchases by forwarding receiving documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies
- Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
- Schedule periodic reviews with major vendors
- Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation
- Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
- Perform cost analysis and benchmarking, and develop key metrics for success
- Assess, manage, and mitigate risks
- Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
- Determine quantity and timing of deliveries
- Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand
- Hire, manage, and supervise a small team of purchasing agents
- Manage inventory levels
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Proven working experience as purchasing manager, agent, or officer
- Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
- Interest in market dynamics along with business sense
- A knack for negotiation and networking
- Working experience with vendor management software
- Ability to gather and analyze data and work with numbers/figures
- Solid judgement along with decision-making skills
- Strong leadership capabilities
- Ability to write, edit, negotiate, and understand contracts
Education/Experience:
BS degree in supply chain management, logistics or business administration preferred
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to conduct detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and other vendor management software solutions.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms; and sit. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
