Position Summary
The Vice President of Academic Affairs reports to the President of the College and serves as the chief academic officer
for the College. The position provides academic and administrative leadership for both credit and noncredit instruction.
Areas of supervision include the following instructional divisions of the college: Business, Communications,
Math/Physical Science, Social Science, Teacher Education, Life Sciences/PE, Fine Arts, Developmental Education,
Nursing, Lee Library, and the Instructional Centers. The Vice President works collaboratively with the President, other
vice presidents, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to achieve the College’s mission.

Essential Job Duties
• Provide administrative supervision of Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, Campus Directors, Library

Director, division chairs, faculty, and instructional office staff.
  • Plan and generate faculty assignments and schedules with assistance from division chairs.
  • Oversee all aspects of the curricula, including the approval of new programs via the Curriculum Committee, the
Board of Trustees, MDHE, the Mo. Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Higher Learning
Commission, and the Department of Education for Financial Aid.
  • Lead regular meetings of the Instructional Council and faculty meetings.
  • Assist with development and administration of Professional Development Programs for faculty.
  • Plan and coordinate instructional space and equipment.
  • Participate in the statewide MCCA Chief Academic Officers group and committees assigned by the Missouri
Department of Higher Education (MDHE). Stay abreast of statewide and national academic trends.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate and prepare written materials appropriate to instructional needs, including reports for accreditation.
  • Ensure the production of the college catalog and class schedules on a timely basis.
  • Aid in the development of grants and proposals as needed.
  • Handle student and parent concerns and appeals with faculty and division chairs.
  • Ensure solid quality control measures for all coursework, including that for online and dual credit.
  • Advocate effective faculty-to-faculty collaboration
  • Provide presentations to the Board as needed, especially for regular program review.
  • Participate in accreditation activities.
  • Participate in commencement and other ceremonies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in higher education management.
  • A minimum of five years of teaching at the college level.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with the mission and distinctive features of community colleges.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills as demonstrated through prior, relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of and expertise with the principles, practices, and techniques of college financial systems.
  • Excellent critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, other professionals, staff, and the

public.

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities
• Doctorate Degree from an accredited college or university.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Successful candidate will be required to live in the taxing district (Newton or McDonald County) within one year
of start date.

Information Technology Abilities
• Ability to operate a personal computer within the Crowder College Network environment using Microsoft

Windows operating system.
  • Ability to perform enterprise software (Jenzabar) and learning management software (Canvas) functions.
  • Ability to use E-mail and associated calendaring/scheduling applications.
  • Ability to perform word processing using MS Word.
  • Ability to perform spreadsheet functions using MS Excel.
  • Ability to use other computer programs as needed.


Positions Supervised

Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, Instructional Center Directors, Library Director, Division Chairs and
Faculty in assigned divisions, Academic Affairs Office Staff.


Working Environment
  • Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting and may involve frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • May require extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing.
  • May encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel.
• Normal college working hours but adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work is required from
time to time.
  • Travel for professional development and services to staff, at all Crowder locations, is expected.
  • A neat appearance and appropriate business apparel are required.
