OSS is looking for a Thermal Engineer III to join our innovative team! In this role you will have the opportunity to work on space suits and the associated hardware, Your responsibilities will include performing thermal analysis via Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT etc., to ensure the space suits and hardware can survive the hostile environments of space.
Working under the supervision of the Senior Engineering Services Manager or Project Manager, you will have the opportunity to perform detailed level thermal design and analysis of aerospace, electronics, and petrochemical industries. You should be able to perform orbital and post-process analysis and work interactively with diverse engineering disciplines in a fast-paced environment to meet program requirements. Responsibilities include interpreting of requirements, developing thermal model and performing analysis, developing reports of the system and subsystems to ensure the products meet or exceed requirements. We will be looking for you to develop product test plans and evaluate test results, test correlate the thermal models and support certification efforts. Your areas of accountability will include developing integrated thermal models of the space suit, subsystems, and components to ensure full compliance of the requirements. We are looking for someone with excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate at all levels of the organization.
- Completing classical and FEA (linear/non-linear statics, modal, frequency response, random response, explicit and implicit transient) analyses of flight hardware, oil field components and other systems.
- Performing detailed calculations to ensure structural integrity of hardware for failure modes, including but not limited to static, fatigue, fracture, buckling, stability, and creep.
- Performing detailed calculations to ensure structural integrity of mechanical joints such as welds and fasteners.
- Assisting the Project Managers and Integrated Product Teams in the support of meeting customer needs, including preparation of proposals, change requests, design reviews, and meeting other requirements related to the design effort.
- Preparing presentations and interim reports based on analysis and test data during the design phase.
- Prepareing and coordinating formal design approval documentation and coordinates design approval with customers.
- Assisting in the development of fracture control assessment and fatigue-life analysis of flight hardware.
- Using appropriate analysis techniques, simplifications, assumptions, and experience-based judgments, to solve complex problems.
- Documenting analysis results and generating reports for hardware certification.
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (or closelt related field); or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Direct experience with standard thermal software Thermal Desktop and SINDA/FLUINT
- 5+ years of thermal analysis experience in related field
- Experience with Fortran and/or computer programming
- US citizen or Permanent Resident
PREFERENCES:
- Master's degree in a related field
- Experience with human space flight and commercial payloads, thermal protection systems, and space life support
- FEMAP and MATHCAD experience
- Experience in CREO and SOLIDWORKS
