Project Overview:

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States and the next large-scale lithium mine. The project has all permits required to commence construction, which is expected to start in 2023. Engineering design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway, with early works being coordinated.

This project falls under the Lithium Americas umbrella of Lithium Nevada Corporation (LNC). Project site is located ~3 hours northeast of Reno at the southern end of the McDermitt Caldera in Humboldt County, NV, and ~25 miles from the Nevada-Oregon border (or ~1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, NV).

The Project will be developed as an open-pit mining operation using conventional, continuous mining equipment. Given the soft, clay nature of the deposit, minimal blasting and crushing is anticipated. The ore will then be processed in a leaching circuit using sulfuric acid to liberate the lithium from the claystone. Following the leaching process, the lithium bearing solution will be purified using crystallizers and reagents to produce battery-quality Li2CO3.

The Thacker Pass site has a flat and expansive terrain which allows for a very compact footprint and for future potential expansions.

Bechtel will have responsibility for the full EPC/EPCM scope.

Position Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a CSA Designer for the Mining & Metals team, based in Houston, TX or telework only for Bechtel employees (Aus, Chile, Perú, USA). The position will be responsible for training to manage CSA Bechtel concrete and steel software, learning to develop concrete models, microstation CAD drawings, work for applying and learning applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit.

Responsibilities:

• Preparing 2-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) plant layouts and study drawings from which detailed design 3-D CAD models and/or construction drawings are completed.
• Preparing portions of 3-D CAD design models under the supervision of experienced designers. Preferred but not mandatory Tekla and S3D platforms.
• Reviewing and checking calculations, design models, drawings and design documents prepared by others in the group and by material suppliers, as assigned.
• Preparing bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline.
• Working with designers in other disciplines in the overall assignment to coordinate designs.
• Answering questions from client or construction group on design for assigned responsibility.
• Compiling, maintaining and accessing job drawing files, recording, and drawing controls, as instructed.
• Preparing design calculations used in the discipline.
• Participating in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Qualifications and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in drafting and basic experience in design AND specialized courses in drafting, design and engineering practices, OR a recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline AND discipline experience in drafting and design.

Additional Qualifications:

• Sound knowledge of CAD design and drafting techniques, engineering drawing, graphic arts, reading of drawings and reproduction methods used by the discipline.
• Familiarity with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
• Skill in reading, interpreting and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
• Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to the discipline’s design responsibilities.
• Basic knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, and codes relevant to the discipline.
• Knowledge of mathematical formulae and design calculations used in the discipline.
• General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
• Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced designers and/or drafters who share in the design effort.
