Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Anthropology through the Recipe for Success program provides direct education, social marketing materials and assistance in systematic changes to individuals and households who are either SNAP recipients or SNAP eligible in Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Davidson, and Stokes counties. Recipe for Success addresses the state objectives of increased nutrition and increased physical activity using USDA approved guidelines and recommendations concerning proper dietary and exercise regimes for a wide range of age groups and socioeconomic backgrounds with a special focus on obesity prevention.

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Project Director and Co-Director, Research Associate #6 shall serve as Nutrition Health Educator. They shall be primarily responsible for delivering nutrition health education to increase positive healthy behaviors among individuals, families, and communities Recipe for Success (RFS) serves, and recruiting partnerships to increase RFS’s outreach and SNAP-Ed deliverables. All deliverables shall fulfill the objectives and goals outlined by the organization and SNAP-Ed contract with NCDSS and USDA. Additionally, in coordination with Research Associate #5, they will assist in the implementation, execution, evaluation, and reporting of Policy, Systems and Environmental (PSE) intervention with current and prospective partners. They shall spend 10% of his/her SNAP-Ed time on management/administrative duties; the remaining 90% shall be spent on SNAP-Ed delivery. The position requires travel and some weekend hours.

Essential job duties of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Deliver direct health education to increase positive healthy behaviors among individuals, families, and communities to fulfill all objectives and goals outlined by RFS and SNAP-Ed contract with NCDSS and USDA.
  • Recruit partnerships to increase RFS’s outreach and SNAP-Ed deliverables.
  • Implement, execute, evaluate, and reporting on Policy, Systems and Environmental (PSE) interventions with current and prospective partners.
  • Participate in the evaluation of direct education and PSE programs.
  • Expand the Recipe for Success client base.


Minimum Qualifications
  • BA degree in social science, social work, public health, nutrition, or equivalent experience working in related fields.

Preferred Qualifications


  • MA or MS degree social science, social work, public health, nutrition, or related field.Experience with USDA/SNAP-Ed.
  • Experience with delivering nutrition and/or food education to marginalized and minority populations.
  • Experience working with marginalized and minority populations.
  • An understanding of the SNAP-Ed program and/or some knowledge in nutrition, physical activities and/or food systems.
  • Some familiarity with Policy, Systems and Environmental (PSE) change interventions and/or policy development.
  • Familiarity with Spanish.

Other Required Qualifications:
  • Experience with delivering education and/or teaching.
  • Experience developing community partners and/or demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate strong skills in written and oral communication, organization, and planning.
  • Demonstrate qualitative and quantitative research experience.
