Covia is looking for a dynamic Supply Planner who will have a positive impact on the S&OP team at its Huntersville, NC or remote location. As a Supply Planner, you will be responsible for planning the supply of terminals, plant rail schedules, entering distribution orders, troubleshooting supply issues, and any other S&OP activities required. The position requires analytical skills, strong influence and communication skills, and the ability to develop and execute complex plans in support of business, customer, and manufacturing strategies. The Industrial S&OP group is a fast-paced group that touches every aspect of the business and stands at the center of many business-critical decisions and projects.


The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Monitor and optimize supply plans to maximize value through a focus on asset optimization, terminal planning, logistics costs, and inventory control.
  • Work with Transportation and Logistics to optimize railcar fleets and supply plans at specific plants and terminals.
  • Plan and coordinate planned downtime with the Operations and Commercial team to minimize customer disruptions and maximize return.
  • Construct and maintain supply models for terminals and plants
  • Lead cross functional teams to help troubleshoot transportation and production issues to keep customers supplied through disruptions.
  • Assist with inventory adjustment analysis including storage location proposals and customer needs.
  • Execute the business plan inventory targets. Refresh the safety stock, target stock and cycle stock calculations when required.
  • Maintain and present weekly industrial terminal updates with material in inventory, material in the pipeline, and customer demand.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of key customers, markets, and products in area of responsibility.
  • Cross train in other business critical S&OP processes to fill in for vacations.
  • Identify areas where S&OP would benefit the industrial business and layout a plan to incorporate those aspects more closely into the S&OP team moving forward.
  • Identify, communicate, and escalate variances from plan. Manage and resolve variances and exceptions.
  • Assist finance, accounting, transportation, operations, or the commercial team in any endeavors that would provide value to Covia
  • Teach, mentor, and train other Covia coworkers to promote a One Team approach and continuously strive to keep learning in order to better yourself.

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, or related field would be advantageous.
  • Mining, manufacturing, or supply chain experience required.
  • Demonstrated analytical/planning capability. Constantly seeking data driven answers to enhance decision making at all levels of the organization.
  • Microsoft applications, IFS or other ERP system experience.
  • Excellent communication, both written and oral, along with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to synthesize different kinds of information in order to make informed decisions that will affect numerous stakeholders.
  • Ability to work at operational/tactical level as well as contribute at strategic level/develop strategic vision.
  • Self-starter showing strong initiative and demonstrated team player.
  • The willingness to ask for help and seek it out when you’ve hit a situation you don’t have an answer to.
  • The ability to move seamlessly between multiple activities and projects. The ability to pivot to triage acute issues and maintain all other duties.
