Job Summary

The Patrol Officer is responsible for leading CN to be the safest and most secure Railroad in North America by promoting and protecting the organization’s people, business, and reputation while demonstrating truth, respect, integrity, safety, and teamwork. The position is committed to create an inclusive work environment where diversity is encouraged and valued. The incumbent works under the prescribed rules of state and federal law and court decisions, as well as corporate and departmental policies, as well as the current labor agreement.

Major Responsibilities

• Carry out targeted traffic and trespass enforcement
• Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends
• Develop and maintain professional liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities
• Participate in regular public speaking
• Conduct Operation Lifesaver presentations

Working Conditions

• Frequent travel over a large geographical area
• Available to work weekends, afternoons, and overnight hours
• Available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in law enforcement
• Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or equivalent*
• Must be a commissioned and certified or certifiable police officer within the state of the position applied for
• Certified or able to be certified in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Valid Driver’s License
• Demonstrate good teamwork and maintain positive interactions with members of other departments and local law enforcement agencies, cooperating in matters of mutual concern
• Make informed and timely decisions
• Possess sound judgment, be autonomous, and demonstrate initiative
• Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Training

• Graduate of an accredited police academy, meeting the standards for the State of certification and commission.
