Summary: This position performs and oversees maintenance throughout the barn unit (s). The Maintenance Technician’s responsibilities includes but not limited to equipment repair, installation and updates along with preventative maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General:

• Oversee all aspects of maintenance of equipment within specified unit (s).
• Execute repair requests submitted by farm manager and document completed projects.
• Be able to estimate project cost and timelines.
• Be able to prioritize maintenance and repair need based on biosecurity, employee safety, animal welfare and environment.
• Be able to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and plumbing issues on a variety of machines, controllers and equipment including but not limited to generators, power washers, fan motors, feed systems and manure handling systems.

Team:

• Be willing to work as a team with farm manager, farm staff and outside contractors.
• Coordinate with outside contractors on site to accomplish projects efficiently and at the best cost.
• Be willing to assist with production processes on the farm as needed and directed.
• Be available for emergencies and be part of the farm alarm response team.

Inventory Management:

• Manage inventory of parts, equipment and supplies related to maintenance on the farm.
• Keep inventory organized.
• Order inventory as needed to stay stocked to prevent work stoppage or delays in animal care.
• Be conscious of maintenance budget and work to promote best costs and best return of investment.

Basic Qualifications:

• Have one year minimum experience in maintenance.
• Ability to communicate and schedule effectively.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Be a self-starter.
• Organizational skills.
• Ability to do basic math – addition, subtraction, and multiplication

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the farm; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb 3-foot gates, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 50 pounds. Position requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Frequently required, for extended periods of time, to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and communicate.

Organizational Relationships:
Interacts closely with Sow Farm Manager, Upper Management, Office Staff and outside Contractors.
