This position organizationally falls under the KCCC Director of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. Operational hours are Monday through Friday, 5:30 am to 6:00 pm. The purpose of this position is to provide supervision and direction to the Kitchen staff to ensure compliance with DHS Regulations, STARS Program, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and performs other duties as stated below. The Kitchen Supervisor/Cook performs these duties in support of the KCCC mission to ensure the highest quality of services are provided in an economically sound and efficient manner.

Tasks are as follows, but not limited to:

1. Supervises kitchen personnel and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food preparation, kitchen, pantry, and storeroom.

2. Purchases and/or requisitions foods, kitchen supplies and equipment.

3. Plans and/or participates in planning menus, preparing, and apportioning foods and utilizing food surpluses and leftovers.

4. Ensures the staff follows and adheres to the CACFP in accordance with specifications and deadlines.

5. Observes food prep to ensure conformance with recipes and appearance standards.

6. Supervises workers engaged in inventory, storage, and distribution of foodstuffs and supplies.

7. Meets with professional staff, customers, or client group to resolve menu inconsistencies or to plan menus for special occasions.

8. Attends CACFP, CCFP conferences and other workshops as needed.

9. Complete time sheets for accuracy and submits to Payroll in a timely manner.

10. Takes corrective personnel action as necessary.

11. Assess training needs of staff and provides opportunities for training and development.

12. The incumbent must be flexible in order to undertake a variety of miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Director.

Must be self-motivated and be able to work with little or no supervision. A supervisor will make periodic visual inspections of the assigned areas, as well as accepting reports from other staff members. Prompt and daily attendance is of utmost importance; failure to be on the job not only disrupts the smooth functioning of the employee’s own job, but also inconveniences the other interrelated jobs. The success of an employee depends in large measure on how well the job is done each day.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED

Food Service Certification or obtain within 3 months of hire.

Must have Food Handlers Certification.

Additional Qualifications

· Ability to work with limited supervision and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

· Technical background is essential to learn and operate variety of office machines including GIS/GPS and water monitoring/testing equipment and software.

· Must be culturally sensitive in working with Indian Tribes.

· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

· Ability to work independently and with others.

· Must be proficient with MS Office word and excel programs.

· Must have a valid current and unrestricted Oklahoma driver’s license throughout employment.

· Must be able to travel 40% of the time both locally and out-of-state on regular basis.

· Mandatory to work in the field during extreme heat or cold conditions while performing the necessary job functions.

Qualification Preferences:

· Previous experience in production or commercial cooking.

· Experience with the Child Care Food Program requirements and documentation.

· Previous Supervisory experience.

· Must pass fingerprint clearance test from all appropriate agencies (such as FBI, Department of Justice, and Child Abuse Index Services).

· Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position responsibilities.

· Must meet applicable requirements for staff caring for children as set in DHS Rules and Regulations when they are responsible for children for any part of the day.

· Must be CPR Certified in age appropriate first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

· Must have an OKDHS approved child passenger safety course within 60 days of hire.

· Must have ability to communicate (English and/or Kickapoo) in an effective manner.

· Must maintain all continuing education units as may be required for licensure and specialty certification or as may be necessary to evidence professional growth.

· Must attend a defensive driving course and be renewed as required.

· Ability to be courteous, tactful, and cooperative throughout the day.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to all phases of the job duties.

· Ability to use standard office equipment, such as the computer, printers, copies, embossing and shredding machines.
