Job Summary
Sensient Pharmaceuticals is a globally unique supplier for the full range of sensory excipients, highly recognized for its high quality and innovative products. This specifically includes the sale of Colors, Coatings, Flavors, and Extracts for both the Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical markets globally. The Innovation Scientist within the Pharmaceutical group makes original contributions to New Product Development (NPD) projects with application in dietary supplements and pharmaceutical products. The position requires experimental design and execution, data analysis and interpretation for bench and pilot scale processes. Development and validation of analytical methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis will be a key responsibility. The position requires collaboration with Pharma and affiliate innovation teams, participation as a leading or supportive team member, and the ability to present project results, interpretation and proposed next steps to technical and business audiences. The Innovation Scientist will manage projects at Sensient sites and be an integral part of the technical team.
Responsibilities after thorough on-boarding
Responsible for technical activities and coordination of Sensient technical resources to ensure project success as part of the technical team.
Develop statistically sound hypotheses and experimental designs for product and process development.
Prepare samples for analytical analysis; run and maintain laboratory equipment including UV-Vis, colorimeter, particle size analyzer and other laboratory equipment.
Identify and implement published analytical methods. Develop new on an as needed basis.
Design and Participate in bench and pilot scale experiments as part of the technical team.
Communicate with team members and collaborators from other divisions, sites and external companies.
Collaborate with sales team and customers for commercial projects.
Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and results documentation.
Collaborate with New Product Development (NPD) group and develop new products as per commercial needs. Complete Stage Gate project activities as assigned.
Work with Quality Control to ensure analytical methods are transferred and done correctly.
Prepare Technical project reports. Prepare and present technical information for both internal and external project updates.
Education & Experience
University degree (B.S. or higher) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Food Science or related scientific discipline required.
Excellent analytical and math skills. Strong attention to detail.
Minimum of two years’ experience in laboratory analysis of biological materials.
Experience running and maintaining chromatography equipment such as HPLCs and GCs, sample preparation equipment, and other physical and chemical parameter testing required. Experience developing analytical methods for botanical components highly desired.
Understanding of botanical extraction and processing at bench and pilot scale is preferred.
Knowledge of water and solvent extraction methods plus analytical and preparatory chromatography preferred.
Knowledge of data recording and Project Management preferred.
Demonstrated ability for time management and ability to prioritize tasks needed.
Excellent English language skills (both fluent in spoken and written), other additional language proficiencies are an advantage.
Proficient knowledge of MS Office; Experience with formulations and / or laboratory database software tools to maintain accurate accountabilities in note books of new product developments.
