Function:
The Housing Support Specialist is critical to the provision of Permanent Supportive Housing and DBHDD’s commitment to the Housing First philosophy as well as the Evidence Based Practice model developed by SAMHSA. This is not a position which provides treatment and does not require licensure. Extensive documentation is required; accurately charts services and individual progress. Must be able to work well with community agencies and function as part of a team, having familiarity with Georgia state and local housing resources and programs.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in social work or human services, or a related field and one to three years working in homeless services; proficient in Microsoft and Excel; and a strong passion for connecting with people experiencing homelessness is a must. Must be available to work flexible hours to provide on-call support and respond to after-hours concerns and emergencies.
Preferred qualifications include Peer Specialist certification; one to three years’ experience in the behavioral health and/or substance abuse field; one year experience working in street outreach with unsheltered individuals, working with behavioral health disabilities; certification in addiction counseling is a plus.
Principal Activities:
- The Housing Support Specialist must schedule, coordinate, and facilitate housing opportunities for individuals through housing development activities:
- Help individuals secure and maintain affordable housing:
- Provide housing advocacy and other supportive services to individuals
- Complete all appropriate monthly and annual report forms.
- Maintain a complete working file providing activity documentation and copies of all corresponding paperwork.
- Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings with Regional Field Office and central Office of Supportive Housing, group supervision, and individual supervision as required by the program
- Attend and participate in training, as required to promote ongoing professional growth and development
- Complete and submit incident reports to the Supervisor within 24 hours of an incident occurring as required by the program
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
