Job Purpose
The Process Safety Engineer will work as part of our global EHS leadership team within the Electrical Carbon Global Business Unit in order to achieve the mission of our organization. The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for leading, coordinating and improving our Process Safety Risk Management activities, including planning, leadership, resourcing, process safety, controlling and legal compliance at each of our manufacturing facilities across the globe.

The Process Safety Engineer is part of the EHS leadership team and the global Operations and Supply Chain function of the Electrical Carbon Global Business Unit, reporting directly to the Global EHS Director, Electrical Carbon. This role will act as the Electrical Carbon Global Business Unit ‘Process Safety Expert’ and will require strong cross functional collaboration with Production, Quality, Maintenance, HR, Supply Chain and on-site EHS teams and global collaboration across our manufacturing facilities, including materials, finishing and specialty plants, as well as other Morgan facilities within and outside of our Global Business Unit, the global EHS community and external stakeholders.

The postholder will create a focused, collaborative and effective Process Safety Risk Management Strategy in order to achieve our number one ambition of Zero Harm.

Responsibilities:
You will act as the Process Safety ‘Expert’ for the Electrical Carbon Business Unit and will support each location and the EHS Director in improving Process Safety Risk Management to control Process Safety Risks and ensure compliance with local legislative requirements, codes, standards and guidance. The following are the general responsibilities of the Process Safety Engineer:

  • Development of Process Safety Risk Management Strategy for the EC BU.
  • Assessing existing Process Hazard Assessments (PHAs), plant, equipment and processes to determine the safety of existing process safety management techniques, identify additional process control and develop prioritization strategies.
  • Identify other plant, equipment and processes that are not currently covered by a PHA to determine the safety of existing process safety management techniques, identify additional process control and develop prioritization strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with local environmental, health and safety regulations and Morgan Plc standards.
  • Promote constant and active engagement of Process Safety Management at all levels in the business and all stakeholders.
  • Monitoring progress against EH&S objectives and communicating progress regularly to the site leadership and employee population.
  • Working closely with Site Leaders, local Engineering and EHS to ensure that each plant is set up to provide maximum output and efficient running of the facility.
  • Designing plant and equipment configuration so that they can be readily adapted to suit the range and the technologies involved taking environmental and economic aspects into account.
  • Instituting scale-up and scale down procedures including appropriate changes to equipment design and configuration.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Health and Safety Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience of high & low temperature gas and or electrical furnace operations, including Slot, Induction, Purification and other types of kilns and ovens, is also very important.
  • Progressive experience as a Process Safety Engineer or a similar role in a high risk and complexity business.
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals, toxic, flammable and pyrophoric materials
  • Knowledge of process safety methodologies, and principals, including LOPA, HAZOP, HAZIDS, FMEA, PHA, QRA, SIL Studies, Consequence Modelling, etc.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes, standards and practices relevant to process design and safety and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP)
  • Experience of working in high hazard and complexity sites.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety tools and techniques and familiarity with applicable regulations, codes and standards.
  • Understanding of modern control principles relating to chemical, furnace, pressure and other processes.
