Position: GIS Field Technician 1 (entry level position with opportunity for growth & transfer in the future). Company car provided, as well as lodging and daily meal stipend for commuting employees.

Location: Traveling throughout southeastern Maine until the end of project completion in September, DRG is currently and will continue to operate projects throughout the North Atlantic region as well as many other parts of the country.

Position Summary:

The Field Technician is responsible for inspecting the physical infrastructure that provides electricity and telecommunications to local communities and their customers. They commonly inspect aerial infrastructure on and between the utility poles to ensure they are operating safely and efficiently. They are required to update utility clients' databases by providing the most up-to-date and accurate information about each utility pole. Indirectly they help the telecommunications lineman teams be more prepared prior to any pole transfer work.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform light GPS editing of utility data.
  • Daily equipment use of: Light Duty Pickup Truck, iPAD, Binoculars
  • Review and/or correct data integrity errors within the GIS Database.
  • Work is performed as a lone worker, beginning and ending at the employees home or company provided hotel. Employees are responsible for receiving assigned work areas and tasks from the supervisor prior to entering the field along with inspecting/maintaining equipment, and downloading data necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Perform visual inspections on utility infrastructure with a heavy focus on Fiber, Coax, and Copper outside plant equipment. Information from visual inspections is entered into a GIS database which is loaded on the company iPAD. Each typical inspection takes between 2-5 minutes to complete.
  • Work schedules are typically 5 days per week, 9 hours per day, and may require performing stand-by duties or on-call work assignments.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and meet safety requirements to maintain a successful safety record.

Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable working full time with a minimum of 45 hours per week.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk on uneven ground, and carry up to 20lbs for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and schematics. Familiar with iOS/Microsoft operating systems and applications.
  • Capable of using binoculars to view equipment and reads labels at distances of 30 - 70ft
  • Proficient use of field-based computers and tablets.
  • Ability to proficiently use a handheld/backpack GPS unit and locate utility poles accurately.
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Electric utility and telecommunications experience preferred.
