Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is seeking an outstanding Experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Heavy Movable Structures team, who specialize in mechanical and electrical engineering for all forms of heavy movable structures. This role can be based out of Doylestown or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or New York, New York.

Our professionals have experience on hundreds of movable bridges and heavy movable structures throughout the United States and abroad. WJE is routinely involved in all electrical engineering aspects of movable bridges including the design of new and the rehabilitation of existing systems, shop inspections/factory acceptance testing, field inspection, testing and commissioning, and construction support services. Additionally, we provide comprehensive engineering services for rail and rail transportation systems which include the design of new and upgraded systems, testing and commissioning of newly constructed systems as well as performing forensics, constructability, and value engineering studies and claims assessments.

Responsibilities: All phases of engineering, design development, and inspection of electrical power and control systems for movable bridges and other movable structures. The specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of electrical power and control systems for heavy movable structures
  • Development of control logic, philosophies, schematic diagrams, and/or control operating sequence for movable structures
  • Perform field assessment/inspection of the electrical/control systems for movable structures and produce field assessment/inspection reports
  • Produce construction documents: design drawings, specifications, engineer cost estimates, etc.
  • Work closely with design and/or field inspection team disciplines to accomplish assigned project goals
  • Ensure that project deliverables conform to project scope, criteria, specifications, and customer requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or a related engineering field
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • 5 to 15 years of experience working in a collaborative engineering environment
  • Understanding and ability to design AC/DC electrical power and control circuits
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Codes
  • Field electrical construction and/or start-up and commissioning experience is a plus

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computer, printer, fax, copier, telephone, voice mail system, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:

  • Ability to attend meetings at the various office, field, and construction sites
  • Ability to perform inspections of electrical systems associated with bridges and other structures, both visually and with instruments
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoors
  • Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials, and computer screens
  • Ability to record data clearly and write passages for reports, letters, etc.
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to safely work at heights
  • Ability to safely work in confined spaces
  • Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
  • Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards
  • Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations
  • Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle

Annual starting base salary (gross): $94,600 - $128,000. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on several factors including consideration for a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base salary is one component of our total compensation package for employees.
