Position:
Control Systems Engineer


Purpose:

Provides technical support on systems projects, in a team environment and/or autonomously, often working directly with the customer, utilizing a hands-on approach. Executes specific tasks from defined goals, often without clear definition. Applies control-system technology to the control requirements of the process and related equipment. Designs, implements, and tests process control strategies, utilizing the continuous and batch capabilities of the given control system. Maintains consistency, adheres to project and department standards, utilizes appropriate tools while executing assignments, and provides proper documentation for work performed. Works within assigned technical scope, budget, and schedule constraints, with direct responsibility for results.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop control system designs and support functional requirement documentation review with customers process engineering team
  • Implement continuous and batch designs into the DeltaV control system
  • Conduct internal and customer witnessed control system factory/site acceptance testing
  • Develop and deploy process simulation
  • Perform Operator and Maintenance training
  • Perform process control equipment installation and startup
  • Perform system upgrades and preventative maintenance activities
  • Explore new opportunities with customers to assess needs for product upgrades/expansion and services
  • Collaborate with sales teams in discussions as a product or service technical expert for existing and prospective customers
  • Deliver quality solutions and services to our many customers and industries
  • Share Emergency Call responsibilities with the Projects and Services team
  • Travel periodically to customer facilities within the multi-state territory served by Applied Control
  • Proactively learn to apply new automation products on a regular basis
  • Adhere to company and customer safety practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft operating systems administration


Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent industry working experience
  • Troubleshoot problems in a logical and timely fashion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface with internal and external customers
  • Knowledge of automation and distributed control systems including instrumentation, PLCs, and HMIs
  • Proficiency in interpreting P&ID, electrical schematics, network architectures, and process control descriptions
  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS systems
  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV Batch / SIS / MES
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows7/Server 2008 and Windows10/Server 2016


Desirable Skills/Qualifications:

  • Understanding of OSI PI, OPC and DCOM
  • Comfortable integrating and troubleshooting Ethernet/Fiber optic/Wireless networks
  • Understand general digital bus and HART technologies
  • Experience with designing control panels, sizing power supplies, creating loop sheets, and developing wiring drawings for marshaling, I/O integration, and power distribution


Working Conditions:

Working in an office setting or a manufacturing facility. Driving and operating machinery involved. This position may require evening, weekend and holiday hours, as well as travel (25-50%). Participation in 24/7 emergency coverage may also be required. Lifting up to 60 pounds is required on occasion.


Compensation:

Base Wage Range: $70,000-130,000 annual salary. Prior work or industry experience as well as job-related education and unique skills will be taken into consideration when setting the wage rate.

Other Variable Compensation: Eligible for additional incentive compensation including an annual profit share award and exempt overtime pay.
