DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Classroom Teacher is responsible for teaching and overseeing the classroom operations for enrolled children enrolled in a Gila River Indian Community classroom.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare and implement plans on bus schedule to pick up and deliver children to their home; follow established bus safety rules and evaluations plans.
- Provide daily lesson plans, which include culture, developmentally appropriate activities, socialization, language and health activities; follow established curriculum as a guide to all lesson plans; assess children’s progress on a quarterly basis.
- Follow referral procedures for children and families needing assistance; plan and conduct home visits.
- Provide opportunities for parent participation in classroom and on all center activities; set up parent corner for Parent Volunteer program.
- Work with special needs children; work with program coordinators.
- Assure adequate supplies and materials are available for the classroom.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
- Considerable knowledge of the economic, educational and social problems of Native Americans.
- Knowledge and experience in classroom management.
- Knowledge of the characteristic group behavior of children and special need children.
- Ability to instruct and motivate children and motivate staff and parents.
- Ability to effectively plan, supervise and coordinate work of others.
- Ability to resolve children’s problems with patience and sympathy.
- Ability to use audio-visual teaching aids, computers and other office equipment effectively.
- Ability to participate in on-going training.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the general public.
- Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED and a Child Development Associate certificate; must have college credits in Early
Childhood.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Current Food Handler Certification (i.e., GRIC, ServSafe, etc.) or obtain within 60 days of employment.
- Maintain current CPR & First Aid Certification.
- Current TB skin test.
- Required to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must continue to maintain throughout duration of employment.
- Background checks are required for positions that involve regular contact with or control over Community
Children in accordance with * The Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 *
U.S.C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63 and positions that have regular contact with the
Elderly.
- Tribal Driving Permit can be required.
- Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205), B.
- Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training on a yearly basis.
