BARN ATTENDANT-EQUINE
Part-Time (Weekends, nights and holidays are required)
$18.75 to $22.00 an hour

The Barn Attendant will work with horses in a veterinary setting maintaining safety and proper horse handling etiquette. You will feed, clean, water, groom and exercise all department livestock as needed while gaining experience assisting Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians with horses. Will assist with disinfecting procedures of stalls/procedure rooms and assist with minor equipment and building maintenance. Participate in Center activities and events as required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS FOR BARN ATTENDANT:
Desire to go to veterinary school and extensive horse experience preferred.
The Barn Attendant must understand the basics of equine husbandry, possess knowledge of all types of equine food substances and possess the ability to safely work around a variety of horses. In addition, must be skilled in proper restraint and handling of horses, be able to safely lift 50 lbs and have the ability to think ahead and work in a fast pace emergency hospital setting. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment, have good verbal and written communication skills and able to interact with clients professionally.
Employee must demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
Helen Woodward Animal Center is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not permitted in any HWAC building or vehicle.
