We currently have a position available as a Life Skills Specialist at our Green Willows adult group home in Greencastle. The position hours are 8am to 6pm, Monday through Thursday.

The Life Skills Specialist at Green Willows will provide skill training and continuity of care to meet the comprehensive needs of our consumers. The Life Skills Specialist primarily provides persons served with face-to-face contact for the purpose of coaching, teaching, or assisting consumers in meeting Person-Centered Treatment Plan goals to improve functioning in major life domain areas. Will follow best practice treatment models within a Recovery-based perspective that is intended to promote resiliency, optimal community participation, and eventual independence from ongoing professional behavioral support.

Previous experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness desired. Must be patient, understanding, and willing to learn new tasks.

Essential duties include:

  • Support the development of individual activities of daily living
  • Provide in-home, and community supervision to meet the comprehensive needs of people with severe mental illness
  • Manage the consumer's overall treatment and teach skills to consumers on an individual and group basis
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed to assure consumer need is met.
  • May require use of personal vehicle.
  • Attend to transportation needs of the consumers as needed, including riding with Van Drivers/Life Skills Specialists to promote safety during the transportation process.
  • Other duties as assigned by clinical management.

Education and experience:

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a related degree in human service field is required or

Associate's degree in human services or related field and (2) years previous direct care experience in social services, behavioral health, school-based, etc.; or

High school graduate or GED and four (4) years previous direct care experience in social services, behavioral health, school-based, etc; or

Two years' of post-bachelors work experience in mental health is preferred.

Should be creative, passionate, fun, and able to engage persons with diverse backgrounds.
