Job Summary
The Academic Computing Analyst (ACA) for the College of Medicine (COM) supports the effective use of technology to further the educational, research, administrative, and community service objectives of the COM. The System Analyst provides guidance and support for the effective selection, implementation, and usage of technology for teaching, learning, and academic administration. The ACA also coordinates COM needs with IT resources (infrastructure, data systems, helpdesk, etc.) to meet the technology support needs of COM faculty and staff.
This position will serve as the liaison between the IT department and college faculty and staff. The System Analyst will support COM faculty and academic programs, specifically focusing on student needs, instructional technology, training, and workshops, as well as supporting the use of academic administrative systems. The role will require a high level of independence as well as the ability to work within a team.
This role requires technical expertise, an understanding of the demands of academia for teaching and research, and a passion for collaborative problem-solving.

Essential Duties
  • Coordinate academic technology and computing services for the College of Medicine, serving as the liaison between CDU IT Department and COM administration
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies and procedures regarding academic software and hardware, reporting, database access, copyright and license compliance, backups, system security, project plans
  • Advising and making suggestions to the IT department regarding software, application, and system modifications and improvements
  • Maintains an expert level of knowledge in support of software applications specific to COM
  • Provides training in the effective use of supported software applications and related personal computing devices to students, faculty, and staff
  • Provides high-level customer service to faculty and staff in COM
  • Facilitates technical support to faculty and staff and assists in the submission (and tracking) of service requests and problem tickets to the IT help desk
  • Develops needs assessments and development proposals for applications, system configurations, programming, and infrastructure to support COM programs
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with all policies, standards, and procedures applicable to the job
  • Create and update technical documentation required to support systems, infrastructures, applications, and processes
  • Track all service requests in the University’s helpdesk ticketing system
  • Provides escalated technical support services for specialized academic technology systems
  • Interfaces with students, employees, supervisors, and directors, employing a high degree of tact and diplomacy to promote a positive image of the department
  • Working in conjunction with IT services, installs, customizes, and maintains computer systems utilized in instructional environments. These systems include: Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X, and Linux
  • Responsible for the installation and maintenance of various specialized learning environments (e.g. clinical simulation centers; computer labs) in COM
  • Ensures a precise inventory and thorough records for computers; hardware, software, licensing agreements, maintenance schedules, and all other equipment; Works with IS services to establish and maintain vendor relationships in support of these items
  • Assists COM in the planning of longer-term academic computing needs, and to this end, serves or advises on appropriate committees that support technology pertinent to the academic unit
  • Performs all work in a manner that is compliant with IT policies and procedures at CDU
  • Manages use, monitors condition, and assures maximum utility of departmental computer labs, and specialty teaching areas under the management of Information Services
  • Assists faculty with technology aspects of grant requests
  • Maintains current skills and shares skills with faculty in using technology applications in support of instruction
  • Training and troubleshooting software, applications, and other academic systems for faculty and staff
  • Reports to campus daily
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • At least 3 years working in an academic environment supporting technology
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with technical support for Mac and Windows desktops, laptops, and tablets
  • At least two-years of experience in direct, hands-on troubleshooting, training, and use of software used in academic settings

  • Master’s degree preferred
