Youth Program Assistant Job at Hopewell City Public Schools
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of support tasks which assists the Office on the Youth Program Specialist, working with youth participating in activities and programs that are planned implemented by Office on the youth.
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under direct supervision of the Office on the Youth Program Specialist. This classification of employee has no employee supervision.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is an entry level position. A successful candidate for this position must have at minimum a high school diploma and meet general hiring requirements as outlined in school board policy.

Hopewell City Public Schools directives, policies, procedures, job description, school/center procedures-manuals, supervisor’s instructions; departmental, program, school or center procedures.
CONTACTS
School administration, faculty, school nurse, substitutes, other assistants and support personnel, students, parents and public; certain central office staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS (May not include all duties performed; not all incumbents perform all essential functions delineated.)
Assists with the supervision of all participants in programs and activities organized by the Office on the Youth.
Distributes and collects materials, sets up for activities and projects.
Models and promotes positive behaviors and social interactions.
Builds one on one and small group relationships with youth to nurture strengths and promote social and emotional growth of participants.
Assists with monitoring student participation in various programs, field trips and initiatives implemented by the Office on the Youth.
Assists with maintaining accountability of youth during hours of operation and while participating in programs and activities.
Attend staff trainings and meetings as necessary.
Assists in providing safe environment by monitoring youth during arrival and dismissal.
Helps maintain order and assists in managing the behavior of youth, including crisis intervention.
Performs related work as required, or assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Good knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and understand child growth and development, as related to the position.
Ability to implement the department’s plans for activities, to follow written and oral instructions, and to assist in the implementation of programs and, and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate behaviors.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Considerable patience and ability to work effectively with children, young adults, and other stakeholders.
Good organizational, human relations and communication skills.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Completion of a high school diploma.
