Youth Health Ambassador Job at MetroWest YMCA
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Youth Health Ambassador, engage students in hands-on learning through nutrition, physical activity, and activities promoting social emotional learning to a group of middle school aged children at a 21st Century Program site. Provides a quality experience to children and their families in accordance with the MetroWest YMCA philosophy, policies, and practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of the Site Director and Director of Nutrition Education:
1. Engage and supervise a group of children and teens using positive guidance and support.
2. Implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA priorities in the area of wellness.
3. Assist with development of curriculum based on cultural, behavioral, and skill set of participants.
4. Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
5. Attend staff meetings and participate in, as well as record, required trainings in accordance to individual professional development plan and EEC regulations.
6. Serve as a role model for staff and students through professionalism, positive attitude, compassion, and leadership.
7. Act as a liaison between the MetroWest YMCA and Framingham Public Schools partnership to fulfill program and partnership goals.
8. Follow YMCA and EEC policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
9. Maintain positive relations with children, families, host school personnel, and other staff. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
2. Previous experience working with children preferably in a structured setting
3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: education, nutrition, psychology, recreational games, etc.
4. Available from 2:30-5:00pm Monday through Thursday
5. Compliance with EEC licensing regulations.
6. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
7. Food service experience preferred.
8. Formal education in food and nutrition.
9. ServSafe certified.
10. Driver’s license and access to personal vehicle for transporting materials to six School’s Out sites.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
