Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe (JST) is searching for a part-time Youth and Teen Program Assistant I to join the Social and Community Services team! This rewarding experience has diverse day to day activities and cultural presence to include both indoor and outdoor activities, swimming, field trips, camping, tutoring, playing organized games, and more!
This position assists with the preparation and implementation of the Teen and Youth After School Programs (ASP) and Summer Program activities, and ensures a clean and safe learning environment. Both programs focus on learning the Tribes traditions and culture, encouraging healthy and positive activities, increasing social and life skills, teaching drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention education, and nurturing connectedness and positive relationships. Responsible for the safe transportation of teens and youth to tribal programs.

As a Youth & Teen Program Assistant I, you will:
- Assist with all driving and transportation needs of the program. These duties apply to both after school and summer activities including weekends.
- Pick up teens and youth from designated locations. Ensure that teens and youth are appropriately buckled in before leaving. Maintain calm and order during the drive.
- Maintain a clean van, and make sure the First Aid kit is stocked and placed in an easily accessible location near the driver. Do not allow the gas tank to drop below a half tank.
- Drive teens and youth home or to their designated location.
- Work with Children's Program team to create individual educational plans for all teens in the school year teen program.
- Duties include assisting with the organization and implementation of weekly activities that improve the effectiveness of the program, as well as developing methods to establish stable, holistic programs that can meet the short and long term social, health, and cultural needs of the tribal teens.
- Participate in the preparation and implementation of daily activities, field trips and special events.
- Maintaining viable community relationships.
- Assist with organizing field trips, purchasing and preparing nutritional snacks, keeping supplies and program equipment organized and inventoried. Restock supplies as needed. Maintain updated list of supplies low in stock.
- Supervise and maintain a positive experience for all teen and youth participants. Assist students in an equitable manner so that personal, appropriate adult contact occurs for every teen.
- Keeping teen and youth emotionally and physically safe while under care of the Teen and Youth Program.
- Assist with maintaining and cleaning any spaces that the program uses for activities. Duties may include washing dishes, vacuuming or mopping common areas, and helping clean up after activities and events.
- Implement ongoing prevention activities and cultural events for Tribal teens and youth throughout the year while facilitating social bonding and development of cultural talents unique to Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe.
- Consult and seek supervision with Teen and Youth Lead Coordinator or team if any teen or youth show or report any concerning behaviors immediately.
- Utilize Microsoft Teams communication platform, and coordinate Zoom calls with children and families when applicable
- Adhere to all COVID-19 safety measures to ensure JST employee and community health initiatives; this includes but is not limited to wearing a mask while indoors, on the bus, and when social distancing is not an option, complete regular temperature checks of staff and children before children board any vehicle, etc.
What are the Required Qualifications for this position?
- High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associates Degree in early childhood development, adolescent education, social work, or related field preferred
- Two (2) years of direct experience working with youth and/or teenagers required
- Must enjoy interacting with teens, youth, and families in a close community environment
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including effective verbal and written communication
- Excellent organization skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Effective time management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suites
- Food Handlers permit
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- COVID-19 Vaccination Certification
- Ability to travel locally and regionally as assigned
- Valid Washington State Drivers License with insurance on file
- Must pass the JST sponsored driver training.
- Must be able to successfully pass criminal background investigation
What are the Preferred Qualifications for this position?
- Leadership experience working with youth and/or teenagers preferred
- Willingness to camp by tent preferred
- Knowledge of Indian culture and communities, or experience working with Native American people preferred
- Knowledge of traditional customs and culture of the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe community preferred
- American Indian/Alaska Native preferences apply

Pay: $14.97 - $17.22 per hour
