Position Focus:

The mission of the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI) is to establish a home for the training of the next generation of clinical and translational scientists and to provide a robust infrastructure that promotes innovative and collaborative research directed at improving patient care. This position, under the general direction of the YCCI Operations Manager, and with latitude for exercising discretion, will provide oversight and analysis of the financial aspects of the internal and external services provided by YCCI. Ensures robust financial and trend reporting, analysis, and investigation to facilitate process improvement and clear understanding by working with YCCI staff at all levels of the organization. Provides a high level of client satisfaction through strong relationship management effort. Participates in monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reporting to YCCI leadership ensuring accuracy, transparency, and clarity. Participates in financial management all of aspects of the CTSA award and other awards made to YCCI as well as in new proposal preparation and submission to funding agencies. Creates and updates financial plans. Adjusts reporting and analysis to accommodate leadership requirements. Cultivates working partnerships and communications with faculty, PIs, OSP, and department administrators. Mitigates risks with noncompliance related to policies, procedures, and other regulatory bodies. Identifies and addresses internal control issues. Collaborates across organizational boundaries maximizing support to clients. Works closely with the Operations Manager and Lead Administrator in the departmental budget, quarterly reporting, and year-end process. The Financial Analyst will provide strong analytical financial reporting, forecasting, trend investigation, process improvement, administrative, and operations support to the mission of YCCI.

Essential Duties

1. Financial Modeling and Forecasting. Provides technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Organizes information from a variety of sources for use in analyzing future plans and forecasts. Collaborates with all levels of management, both internally and externally, to gather, analyze, summarize, prepare, and present recommendations regarding financial plans and other complex financial matters. Researches and evaluates information to resolve issues and makes recommendations. Develops and/or executes complex financial models. 2. Financial Analysis and Reporting. Analyzes and synthesizes information and designs and creates accurate and timely reports. Designs financial reporting to meet the compliance needs of internal and external users. Extracts and consolidates data from multiple sources. 3. Financial Methods and Systems. Contributes to the planning and improvement of practices, processes and systems. Collaborates with all levels of internal and external contacts to carry out department goals. Provides a high level of service that cultivates and maintains strong working relationships and communicates effectively; takes ownership and accountability for timeliness, accuracy and relationship management. 4. Strategic Resource. Translates department finance goals into objectives. Identifies and raises potential financial opportunities, issues, risks, ideas and solutions. Identifies the appropriate stakeholders to include in consultations, communications, approvals or buy-ins for designing and implementing changes. 5. Compliance and Risk Management. Establishes, implements and/or maintains strong internal controls in areas of assigned responsibility to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resource use, accurate financial information, and adherence to contractual obligations and agreements, policies, procedures, and external regulatory requirements. 6. Mentors, leads and/or supervises staff. 7. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated application of financial, accounting and economic concepts.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Ability to work well and communicate effectively with faculty, fellows, and staff and to represent YCCI in a professional manner. Proven ability to adapt communication style to address the needs of individuals at all levels and to represent the department in a professional manner.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Proven ability as a proactive, resourceful, independent, strategic thinker. Ability to manage multiple projects on deadline in a fast-paced environment, with great attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Thorough working knowledge of finance, budgeting, fund accounting, and financial reporting and analysis. Demonstrated ability to integrate multiple, complex pieces of information to identify themes and trends. Experience in sponsored research financial management.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability in manipulating database information and using various query/reporting tools.
Demonstrated proficiency with PC-related software including Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Strong organizational skills. Proven ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Effective oral and written communication skills and well developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, faculty, and other professionals.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

MBA or similar advanced degree in finance, accounting or healthcare administration. Superb computing skills & ability to create new reports for tracking, analysis & communication of financial information. Knowledge of federal regulations & reporting requirements; Yale accounting & financial systems (Workday) & sponsored project policies; project management experience.
