Position Summary:

Under direct supervision, using proper welding techniques performs tack and finish welds on fabricated steel components or metal parts as specified by blueprints and by using proper welding fixtures and methods. May direct activities of other employees. Fully proficient across a variety of product lines / work areas and may operate automated welding equipment.

Requirements:

Essential Functions of the Job:

Performs all duties encompassed by Welder I as below:

  • Follows all company and departmental safety rules including proper use of personal protective equipment
  • Performs all required quality checks to assure products conform to company standards
  • Maintains 5s standards of housekeeping in work area
  • Meets production requirements
  • Lifts parts into jig, manually or with a jib crane, tack welds and checks dimensions.
  • Using proper welding techniques performs finish weld as specified on blueprint
  • Operates cutting torch and/or grinder, adapting the fit of parts for a weldments
  • Operates over head cranes
  • Scrapes and/or buffs weldments as necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned

In addition to the duties encompassed by a Welder I, incumbent may perform the following:

  • Performs all required quality checks to assure products conform to company standards, may include verifying quality / location of welds by others
  • Sets up work station with proper fixtures and correct parts, verifies material availability, reports or resolves material shortages
  • Sets parameters on welder based on thickness of steel and warpage
  • Lays out dimension and marks locations for finish weld when a fixture is not available
  • Maintains fixtures according to blueprint
  • Completes all necessary routing, back flushing and work order documentation accurately
  • Assists in training coworkers in proper work procedures and safety
  • Starts the robot to weld parts to existing program, includes touch sensing to correct part errors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Must be able to read blueprints with welding symbols and use measuring instruments
  • Knowledge of welding fixtures
  • Knowledge of welding machines, able to adjust voltage and amperage settings as necessary
  • Knowledge of production procedures essential
  • Must be able to operate lift truck
  • Proficient in welding processes, ability to complete production welding with minimal defects

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate preferred or work experience in a related occupation
  • Minimum three years of related experience welding in a production environment required
  • Formal Weld Training preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to complete production welding with minimal defects
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least three Herschel product lines or similar previous experience with demonstrated flexibility and willingness to cross train effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work overtime, including weekends
  • Must be physically capable of standing/working 8+ hour shift(s)
  • Must be able to lift, carry and/or move up to 40 pounds on a regular basis
  • Must be able to work in non-climate controlled areas
  • Must be able to wear required safety equipment including welding helmet
