POSITION SUMMARY
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Provides accurate readings and maintenance of water meters to ensure efficient operation; performs other duties as required or assigned.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide accurate readings and maintenance of water meters to ensure efficient operation. The work is performed under the direction and supervision of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are to perform in an outdoor environment in a variety of terrains and weather conditions.

Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions.
Ability to make simple mathematical computations and accurate readings of meters.

Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions, use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions, and prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations.

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
Experience: 1 plus years of experience in meter reading Or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Computer Skills: Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
Certifications & Licenses: Valid State of Idaho Driver’s License. Acquire a Water Distribution license within 1 year of accepting the position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The principal duties of this class are to perform in an outdoor environment in a variety of terrains and weather conditions.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

- Reads meters and makes complete and accurate consumption records.
- Ensures the efficient operation of meters in an assigned area, including performing routine maintenance on meters and service sites as required, proofing previous readings, and checking for leaks as needed.
- Monitors the conditions of the meters, and reports any problems or deficiencies to an assigned supervisor, including replacing water meters as well as damaged rings and lids
- Responds to service orders, including turning meters on or off as requested due to residents moving or emergencies, in addition to shutting off water services due to non-payment and performing irrigation turn-off when appropriate.
- Performs on-call (after-hours, evenings, holidays, and weekends) duties as assigned.
- Performs a variety of courier duties, including transporting mail in addition to delivering messages, materials, and supplies between the City and agencies or businesses.
- Serves as a general helper as needed, including arranging and delivering furniture, setting up chairs and tables, transporting boxes and other miscellaneous items, and removing snow from assigned areas upon request.
- Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned, and attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
