The Lower Shore Clinic is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center that offers outpatient therapy, substance abuse, and primary care services. Our Assertive Community Treatment Teams provide case management and advocacy services at a client's home, work, or any other appropriate location chosen by the client. Go-Getters is a subsidiary of the Lower Shore Clinic and provides rehabilitation services to adults recovering from severe mental illness. Day Programs run classes on daily living skills and support groups. We offer support to clients in the community who might otherwise be isolated or neglected. Rehabilitation Specialists assist with the daily demands of life, providing services at home, worksite, or another location chosen by the member. Residential Services provide housing, and with support and guidance our clients can learn skills to help them move into independent living. Crisis services help prevent hospitalization to people in crisis and the Supported Employment Team offers employment preparation and job coaching.

ASSERTIVE COMMUNITY TREATMENT (act) VOCATIONAL SPECIALIST

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Personal stability, flexibility, energy, and commitment to working with people recovering from severe mental illness.
  • Current CPR and First Aid; Driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High School diploma and supported employment experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to address the problematic needs of supported workers. Demonstrated familiarity with the psychosocial and vocational rehabilitation process.

DUTIES:
  • Develop employment opportunities for members through direct solicitation of employers for individual positions, creation of enclaves and mobile crews for subcontracted group work, and stimulation of cottage industries.
  • Complete vocational intake and orientation to vocational services for newly recruited members; Assess readiness and employment skills; provide generic training for employment; provide specific training.
  • Serve as a liaison to the business community and helping agencies; advocate for people recovering from severe mental illness as employees.
  • Maintain awareness of advances in the vocational field and advise staff on issues and trends in vocational development, training, and placement.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-house trainings as requested.
  • Keep records, provide reports, and maintain data as required by the Division of Rehabilitation Services, Mental Health Administration, or other regulatory agencies.
  • Report revenues and expenses consistent with budget constraints.
  • Establish program targets for job development, training, employment and job retention with the Vocational Coordinator; Evaluate program semi-annually.
9. Using the electronic medical records, input data and following through seeing services to their completion.
10. Maintain total confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA law, CARF accreditation standards and Maryland State Regulations.
11. Other duties as assigned by the Vocational Team Leader.

NARRATIVE:
The ACT Vocational Specialist is tasked with providing the outlet for members able to make the transition to the community of volunteer and gainful employment. Within the framework of the existing Supported Employment Program, if possible, or outside of it if not, will act as a placing agency for members seeking work and as entrepreneur to initiate, negotiate, and supervise business contracts.

AUTHORITY:
Position reports to the Vocational Team Leader, who will approve schedules and provide appropriate supervision. Position is expected to function as the Vocational Job Developer/ Job Coach in accomplishing organizational goals.

CLASSIFICATION, SALARY, AND BENEFITS:
Regular, full-time position, exempt from overtime.
