SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Upholstery Manager the Utility Sewer will perform a variety of tasks using standard procedures, tools, equipment and materials to produce sewed items that enables production of upholstery products that are delivered at the highest quality, on time and completed in the safest, most efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Uses stitching machine to sew articles including cushions, pillows, and flat work.
• Uses stitching machine to join parts of textile articles, hems, and reinforce.
• Inspects fabric and finished pieces to ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Cleans and monitors sewing machinery/equipment operation to detect problems.
• Maintains a clean, safe work environment according to best practices and follows safety rules and procedures at all times.
• Works as part of a team to meet production goals.
• Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to operate stitching machines, prior experience with double-needle machines required.
• Must have effective verbal communication skills to interpret and understand work orders, communicate deadlines, problems, and safety issues.
• Must be able to maintain production and work records.
• Requires a keen sense of urgency and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must have basic math skills, addition, subtraction, and linear measurement.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Must be able to move up to 35 lbs.

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent, work experience may be considered as well.

EXPERIENCE: 3 – 5 years sewing experience.

WORK ENVIORNMENT: Most work is performed in a manufacturing environment with dust and noise consistent with an upholstery shop. Personal Protective Equipment provided.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing job duties, position is mostly moderately sedentary with long periods of sitting at a machine. Walking to pick up materials and delivery completed work is necessary. Employee is required to use hands to handle, feel and manipulate fabric and guide fabric through machines. Employee will frequently lift or move objects up to 25 lbs. This position requires close vision, distance vision and color vision and the ability to adjust visual focus .

SUPERVISION: Position reports to the Upholstery Manager. Position does not regularly supervise other employees.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Thursday 6:00am to 4:30pm, overtime is generally worked during the summer and may be required evenings and weekends.
