Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for strategic capital planning, project development, project delivery, resource allocation, project accounting, risk mitigation, and project control, while providing technical direction and ensuring compliance with quality standards through the supervision of consultants, designers, contractors, project management staff and owners representative consultants. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Identify projects that advance the strategic initiatives of the University through planning studies, collaboration with campus partners, and leading a capital planning steering committee comprised of University cross-functional leadership
- Lead the University’s next campus master plan by managing the selected planning firm’s engagement with the steering committee and select focus groups to complete a comprehensive campus master plan
- Working with the planning firm, establish a roadmap for implementation of projects over a 10-year period, and within the framework of the University’s capital budget
- Lead the design and construction of projects identified in the campus master plan roadmap
- Lead the amendment of the University’s planned development with the City of Chicago
- Oversee the identification and implementation of infrastructure projects that address proactive maintenance and campus resilience
- Work with campus partners requesting projects to define scope, evaluate space utilization for its highest and best use, consider program adjacencies, engage architects to create test fits, and recommend the best approach to meet program needs
- Guide the aesthetic and functional standards of Loyola’s built environment and campus grounds
- Responsible for annual long range capital planning activities, and support land use development initiatives
- Responsible for architectural planning studies for major new buildings and renovations.
- Oversee and have responsibility for interior design, furniture planning, building graphics, and site development.
- Oversee new construction, renovation, infrastructure, landscape, and building addition projects from start to finish.
- Perform a key role in identification of resource requirements to achieve the goals of the capital budget
- Create teams, develop objectives/goals of each, and assign individual responsibilities.
- Consistently evaluate and identify potential risks to the success of a project, mitigate risks to schedule and budget, and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Ensure that construction activities move according to pre-determined schedule.
- Communicate effectively with and coordinate all parties involved in the project, including campus partners, leadership, staff, consultants and contractors responsible for completing various phases of the project.
- Monitor the progress of the project activities on a regular basis and hold regular status meetings with all sub-teams.
- Maintain strict adherence to the budgetary guidelines, quality and safety standards.
- Perform periodic inspections of construction sites.
- Ensure project documents are complete.
- Identify the elements of project design and construction likely to give rise to disputes and claims.
- Coordinate work sites to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
- Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, architecture or a related field required. A post graduate degree in construction management is an added advantage.
At least 15 years of experience in construction or renovation projects, preferably within a university setting.
Excellent communication skills.
Good understanding of MEP building systems.
Thorough knowledge of legal issues is essential.

LEED-AP preferred
Computer Skills
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point. Experience in project scheduling software a plus.
