About this opportunity:
The Refinery Unit Inspector is responsible for the oversight of the mechanical integrity of fixed and/or pressure containing equipment (pressure vessels, exchangers, piping, tanks, etc.) located within their specific unit(s) and ensuring compliance with existing federal, state, local, and/or jurisdictional requirements. The Refinery Unit Inspector collects or oversees the collection of pertinent data of pressure containing equipment, analyzes this same data, and makes calculations and/or recommendations affecting the life cycle of the equipment. The Refinery Unit Inspector will work closely with operations and consults with operators within their unit to communicate the mechanical integrity of pressure containing equipment to ensure the safe and reliable operation of equipment located within their unit(s).
The Refinery Unit Inspector will work closely with refinery and contract maintenance personnel to ensure all work done on equipment located within their unit(s) is completed in compliance with existing federal, state, local and/or jurisdictional requirements.
This position is located at our Superior WI refinery.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all required jurisdictional on-stream, out-of-service, and/or monitoring inspections and activities are completed as scheduled and as required.
  • Review all inspections completed and perform life cycle, corrosion rate, and/or remaining life calculations to determine integrity of fixed equipment.
  • Perform reviews of all NDE, PMI, and other work performed on fixed equipment by maintenance, maintenance contractors, inspection contractor, and/or other TAR contractor activities.
  • Maintain active communication with operations, maintenance, engineering, and terminal operations to ensure safe and reliable operation of fixed equipment.
  • Manage, review, and maintain data received and entered into the IDMS and assure accuracy of reporting information.
  • Generate inspection requirements, NDE requirements, and other relevant hold points for the general inspection of and/or work performed on fixed equipment.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, operations, engineering, and TAR groups to ensure all existing and/or proposed work is scheduled and completed as per applicable jurisdictional standards and ensure all work is completed to refinery QA/QC standards.
  • Maintain active certifications, as required, and keep apprised of industry changes and updates related to inspection practices.
  • Perform other activities directed by the inspection/integrity manager, as required and/or necessary.
Deliverables:
  • Complete on-stream API inspections of fixed equipment, document results, compile final reports, and identify changes and/or updates on equipment.
  • Collect or oversee the collection of data on fixed equipment and record and document all findings within the Inspection Data management System (IDMS).
  • Analyze and interpret the collected data and make recommendations that affect the life cycle of fixed equipment and assets and that follow applicable jurisdictional codes and standards (NBIC, API, etc.) and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).
  • Create, maintain, and update reports specific to equipment and generate, maintain, and update Inspection Test Plans (ITP’s) for all fixed equipment.
  • Complete, direct, and/or provide Quality Control and Quality Assurance (QA/QC) oversight for non-destructive examination (NDE), visual inspection, data life-cycle analysis, Positive Material Identification (PMI), welding procedures, heat treatment, and other work related to fixed equipment.
  • Communicate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and reliability groups information related to the life cycle of fixed equipment.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain comprehensive inspection procedures, guidelines, and work instructions related to the completion of tasks.
  • Coordinate with TAR group to assist planning of required maintenance activities on fixed equipment.
  • Coordinate with contract inspection for API inspections during TAR activities and other planned and/or unplanned outages.
  • Provide additional support to other unit inspectors and to the integrity/inspection group as needed.
  • Provide support as needed for operations, maintenance, engineering, and reliability groups.
Qualifications:
  • Certifications in API 510 and API 570 is required
  • Certifications in ASNT-TC1A NDE techniques are required
  • Certification in API 571 is an asset
  • Certification in AWS-CWI is an asset
  • National Board Inspection Code Relief Valve Certificate is an asset
  • 10 years minimum experience within refining industry or at a refinery is an asset
  • Experience in MS Office applications, SAP, PCMS and other business enterprise software is required.
Work Environment:
  • The physical strength demands of this position are not significant, but the person may be called upon to perform inspection in certain circumstances which may include heights, climbing, crouching, and confined space.
  • This position’s work environment is indoors and consists of occasional to frequent tasks outdoors.
