Position Summary
Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Residence Hall Recreation Coordinator position with the college's TRiO Upward Bound Summer Program.
The TRiO Upward Bound program is a federally funded grant from the U.S. Department of Education for $559,208 which covers 100% of the program costs. This year-round program provides academic support, college preparation, career awareness, and other support services to low-income and potential first-generation college students. It is designed to help students become more successful in high school and prepare to enter and successfully complete postsecondary education. The program works with the following four target high schools within Central Washington: Moses Lake, Warden, Othello, and Royal High School.
For six weeks, TRiO Upward Bound operates an intensive residential summer academy for 52 students on the BBCC campus. Students participate in high school or college classes during the day and tutoring sessions during the evening including organized recreation and enrichment activities. The program also offers day trips, tours, and weekend field trips designed to promote personal and social growth.
Salary for this position is $4,752.00 for the 44 program days, June 24 through August 12, 2023. (A one-day training will be required prior to the start date.) Must be available for the entire term of the summer program. This position is not benefit eligible.

Essential Job Duties
Under the supervision of the Program Director & Residence Hall Director, the Recreation Coordinator will:
- Live in the residence hall and assist in supervising 45 students and enforcing program rules.
- Responsible for planning and facilitating all evening and weekend activities and hall life programming.
- Assist in managing residence hall office including organization, desk operations, handling student concerns & office coverage.
- Assist Program Director & Hall Director in the orientation and training of Resident Advisors.
- Assume Hall Director responsibilities once per week during that position's scheduled day off.
- Exemplify a positive and mature role model for the TRiO Upward Bound students.
- Provide academic tutoring and personal guidance and mentorship to students.
- Provide individual and small group supervision as assigned.
- Work 6 days a week (including some weekends); daily work schedule will vary based on program needs.
- Drive a college van as required for program activities.
- Maintain appropriate administrative office and student records while maintaining confidentiality.
- Attend and co-lead daily staff meetings.
- Participate in a week-long residence hall staff training prior to students' arrival.
- Assist with meal service coordination as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three years of college completed after high school graduation.
- Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
- Sensitive to the backgrounds of culturally diverse high school students.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills.
- Creative and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting demands & priorities.
- Employment is contingent upon favorable background check through the Washington State Patrol.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Residence life and/or recreation experience.
- Experience working with teenagers and/or disadvantaged populations.
- Bilingual fluency, especially in Spanish.
- Demonstrated bicultural experience.
