Local environmental nonprofits are collaborating to bring together a community of grassroots environmental community organizers to increase urban tree canopy and climate resiliency within Los Angeles neighborhoods. The Tree Ambassador Program is a collective of passionate and well-connected community leaders throughout Los Angeles coming together to engage in direct organizing efforts to inspire and support urban greening efforts in your corner of Los Angeles. Online and in-person training and workshop sessions will be held weekly covering a wide range of issues related to trees in Los Angeles.
The Tree Ambassador Program is funded by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Accelerated Resilience Los Angeles (ARLA), Dashboard.Earth and the U.S. Forest Service through City Plants and the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC).
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking Tree Ambassadors (TA) to build connections with, and amplify the voices of, their communities. Individuals will gain knowledge on how to support communities with urban greening needs and goals.

Job Responsibilities*
- Participate in weekly in-person and remote training sessions, approximately 3-4 hours each.
- Important: If two training sessions are missed, applicants will be asked to step down from the program in order to open up a position for a candidate who can commit to the program in its entirety.
- Complete provided training activities before and after weekly training sessions.
- Draft and implement a unique Community Impact Project.
- Complete bi-weekly reports (due every other Friday evening).
- Utilize the Dashboard.Earth mobile platform.
- Conduct outreach to local community centers, faith-based organizations, businesses, and residents about tree benefits, equity, and planting opportunities.
- Create space for productive conversations and community feedback.
- Collect Commitment to Water (CTW) forms from residents to plant more street trees in your neighborhood.
- Support community members in accessing tree planting and urban forestry projects in the City of Los Angeles for both private property and public spaces.
- Provide critical feedback to program administrators on your experience to help shape future programs.

TreePeople is an environmental nonprofit organization that is mobilizing people, business, philanthropists, and public agencies to work together to create green, resilient communities by planting trees, capturing the rainwater, greening schools, and providing fun environmental educational activities. We inspire, engage, and support the community to increase the urban tree canopy and address climate threats and environmental justice in Los Angeles and across the region.
Requirements:
- Ages 18+
- Ability to serve the full 6.5 month program starting January 11th 2023: Onboarding and attending 9 training sessions and 15 workshop sessions in total.
- Attend mandatory meetings, workshops and training sessions on Wednesdays mornings from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. starting January 25th, 2023 through July 2023.
- Be available on some Saturday mornings from January-July 2023.
- Current residency in Arleta, Canoga Park, Pacoima, Panorama City, Reseda, Sun Valley, Sylmar, Van Nuys, or Winnetka.
- May need to work remotely.
- Must have access to reliable transportation. Limited discretionary funds available.
- Must be able to load and unload 15-gallon trees from a large truck and bend and lift approximately 55 lbs.
- Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e., rain, heat, sun, and cold.
