Transit Driver Trainee (FT) Job at Lincoln County
Position Summary:
Your job in the department is to:
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
- Safely operate all agency vehicles through traffic along assigned routes under various environmental conditions in accordance with traffic laws and departmental regulations.
- Obtain knowledge for written DMV CDL test.
- Practice physical skills in order to obtain DMV CDL drivers permit.
- Train on pre and post trip inspections following regulations and guidelines designated by federal and state Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Utilize boarding or disembarking and with personal miscellaneous articles.
- Utilize various installed bus features to load, unload and secure passenger and assistance equipment.
- Learn how to operate two-way radio/phone for professional routine communications with dispatcher and other transit vehicles.
- Ensure bus is fueled and supplied.
- Complete departmental and County required trainings.
- High School Diploma / GED.
- Certification(s) required.
- Specifics: A current DOT medical examiner's certificate prior to date of hire.
- Oregon Driver's License required.
- Specifics: Must possess a valid Oregon class B driver’s permit. Complete necessary trainings and test to obtain Class B driver’s license with a passenger endorsement following completion of course.
Knowledge of:
- Traffic laws.
- Drive under all conditions of weather, roadways, and traffic.
- Read and interpret maps.
- Remain flexible in handling changes.
- Maintain accurate records and reports.
- Relate effectively with people of varied age, physical condition, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy.
- Undergo hands on fire extinguisher training and bus evacuation procedure training.
- Convey information, ideas, and facts both orally and in writing to supervisors, colleagues, and individuals, inside and outside the county, using language and a format the audience will best understand.
- Utilize computers and other technology to communicate in written and verbal forms (e.g., word processing, texts, emails, spreadsheets, department-specific software).
- Effectively relate well with others, including supervisors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the county. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and working to maintain constructive working relationships.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work. Show up to work on time, and follows instructions, policies, and procedures. Meet productivity standards, deadlines, and work schedules.
Job Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Sit in a transit vehicle for extended periods throughout shifts.
- Use arms, wrists, and hands to turn steering wheel of transit vehicle.
- Use legs to apply pressure for braking of transit vehicle.
- Adjust transit vehicle seats and mirrors to gain necessary line of vision to maneuver vehicle safely.
- Maneuver approximately 600 pounds (passenger in a wheeled mobility device).
- Maintain full and complete use of all limbs to operate vehicle controls.
- Climb, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch and kneel to inspect vehicle or assist passengers.
- Push pull or maneuver carts, strollers, wheeled mobility devices.
- Lift approximately 50 pounds or more.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
- Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light to heavy work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate to heavy weight (20-50 pounds).
- Sensory Requirements: Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Most tasks require oral communications ability. Most tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.
- Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
