Tourist Information Counselor Job at Commonwealth of PA
The Tourist Information Counselor will provide the motoring public visiting Welcome Center facilities with effective, efficient and accurate information and resources to shape their travel plans.
This position is a part time “on-call” position which requires reporting to work within short notice to cover shifts ranging from 7:00am – 7:00pm, 7 days per week (Hours or operation and shifts are temporarily 9:00 am to 5:30 pm). Shifts vary and working hours are based on operational need.
The Tourist Information Counselor will deliver improved customer service to all PENNDOT Welcome Center stakeholders (traveling customers, tourism industry partners, internal customers, employees, vendors, etc). An employee in this position will provide travelers with key information regarding their visit to PA including directions and hotel accommodations to boost travel in PA.
The employee will improve PENNDOT’s tourism outreach efforts and strengthen our partnerships with the industry through special programming at the Welcome Center, participation in familiarization tours, travel shows and other duties as assigned by developed by immediate supervisor or division manager. An employee in this position will support internal and external communications to improve Welcome Center Division operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Part-time permanent "on call" employment.
- Work hours are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with 30-minute lunch.
- Shifts vary and working hours are based on operational need.
- On Call shifts can range from 7:00am – 7:00pm, (temporarily hours are 9:00am – 5:30pm), 7 days per week.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in work involving public contact; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Willing and able to work in and commute to Northampton County PennDOT Welcome Center: : I-70 Westbound, ½ mile North of PA/MD Border, Warfordsburg, PA.
- Ability to be "on call" between 7:00am to 7:00pm, (temporarily hours are 9:00am -5:30pm), seven days a week.
- Ability to report to work within 1-hour of being called in.
- One year of customer service experience.
- One year of work experience involving public contact.
- Experience working with computers.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Experience answering phones.
