GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Technical Operations Specialist II ensures the electrical traffic systems operate efficiently, primarily in the Eastern section of Northeastern Wyoming. You will repair, build, inspect, and install electrical systems while working independently to provide a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system. Traffic electrical systems include but are not limited to traffic signals, roadway lighting, high mast tower lighting, lashing beacon systems, and road closure systems.

Gillette is located on the rolling hills midway between Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park. It is also one hour from Devil's Tower National Monument. The Powder River Basin produces over 1/3 of our nation's coal. You'll have easy access to hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, golf, and other outdoor activities in the Black Hills or Big Horn Mountains. Gillette College hosts many community events year-round. Wyoming is one of seven states with no income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Maintains and diagnoses hardware, software, and communication systems.
  • Replaces damaged parts; inspects and diagnoses specific problems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, emergency repair, troubleshooting, modifications, utility locates, and inspects contractor installations of complex electrical and electronic devices.
  • Monitors Operations remotely or in the field.
  • Responsible for site maintenance.
  • Responsible for procurement, inventory, organization of resources, and planning.
  • Troubleshoots maintains, repairs, builds, and installs complex electrical and electronic devices.
  • Provides traffic control when needed and wears proper protective equipment.

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Basic ladder & hand tool use and knowledge.
  • Troubleshooting electrical or electronic devices.
  • Ability to read and use a digital multimeter.
  • Ability to perform the job in a safe manner.
  • Proper training in basic first-aid and CPR.
  • Microsoft Office Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician I
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Some agencies may require a valid Class C driver's license.

Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician I

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Works in extreme weather conditions.
  • The position involves heavy lifting.
  • Works at heights of 45 feet and below in a bucket or lift truck.
  • Workaround high-speed traffic and heavy construction equipment.
  • Individuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls anytime, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with a response time of no greater than 30 minutes. Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies that the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply with it.
  • Must be able to travel and spend nights out of town when required.


NOTES:
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • Must obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements within 30 days of employment.
  • Individuals in this classification will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion of Defensive Driving.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
