Position Purpose/Summary: The Thermoforming Machine Operator Technician is the primary operator of the forming machines and is responsible for the set-up, maintenance, and production of customer orders and for meeting specifications for quality and efficiency. The Technician assures the thermoforming machine is operating properly and must follow company procedures for safety and provide accurate and timely reporting of production data to comply with the companies Good Manufacturing Practices. The Technician is responsible for performing maintenance and mechanical related duties within the production area.

All duties as assigned and the following specific activities:

• Responsible for operating thermoform machinery and assure all company safety procedures are followed in the production work area.
• Lead and direct associates assigned to line, ensuring proper packing procedures are followed.
• Excellent attendance is crucial to team success
• Produce a variety of molded plastic parts by loading raw material, setting and adjusting cycle times, temperatures, pressures, cutting and material handling stations, and cycle machine to ensure proper and safe operations.
• Ensure thermoforming equipment is operating at or above established forming standards.
• Ensure safe work environment and abide by 5S and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
• Collaborate with other Operators, providing knowledge and training to less experienced personnel.
• Perform in-process inspections of parts throughout production run and assure they meet documented and visual standards of acceptance.
• Responsible for producing customer parts to order in the proper quantity as identified by the production order.
• Assures all manufacturing equipment is well maintained and calibrated, reporting any deficiencies to Maintenance.
• Monitors production efficiency; addresses line stoppage and initiates immediate problem solving to correct the cause.
• Report material utilization in the daily production report
• Ensure daily production report data is correct and up to date
• Recognize defective materials for color, surface blemishes, finish and dimensions.
• Segregate non-conforming materials and ensure non-conforming report (NCR) procedure is followed and reported to management.
• Ensures machine set up procedure is followed and the appropriate materials are on line prior to each production run.
• Maintain the integrity of all customer/company owned tools.
• Identify the proper tooling required for pending production.
• Inspect condition of molds, component parts and knives for damage and wear. Report deficiencies to management using defined procedures.

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities (minimum)

Education:

• A high school degree or equivalent expected.

Experience:

• 2 - 10 years of thermoform production manufacturing experience required
• 2 - 10 years of shop mathematics, reading shop drawings and have used a variety of precision measuring instruments
• Thermoform machine set-up experience required

Technology/Software:

• Must possess basic computer skills and the ability to efficiently utilize Microsoft Office, Outlooks, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Communication:

• Must have ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English including legible handwriting
• Must be flexible to move to another shift in order to meet production schedule and work overtime as needed

Physical Capabilities

Strength (lifting, dexterity, repetitive motion):

• Have ability to regularly lift, carry, turn and rise; and/or lift turn and bend down to place a unit weighing up to 50 lb. on to a pallet or stack of units. Frequency could be every 3 to 5 seconds.
• Have the ability to retrieve merchandise from shelves up to 6 feet in height.
• The ability to be exposed to wet/or humid conditions, non-toxic fumes and airborne particles, blowing dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, proximity to heat, and moving mechanical part.

Movement (standing, stopping, sitting, crouching, crawling):

• Have full mobility in, and use of, arms, hands and legs.
• Have ability to sit for long periods of time.

Hearing (loud noise tolerance, quiet work area, public speaking, receive work direction):

• Able to function in a semi loud environment, with frequent loud bursts of noise (such as backup siren)

Vision (judge distance, read signs, extended computer work, identify details):

• Able to see so as to operate machinery safely and efficiently.
