About our opportunity:

The Transportation Department is excited to hire temporary Parking Customer Service Attendants to join our team. The purpose of this classification is to clean and maintain buildings, facilities, and grounds for an assigned department.

Hiring Rate: $15.00 per hour

Work Schedule: work hours are dependent on the division and event schedule

This position will NOT be eligible for benefits, paid leave time (vacation, sick, holiday) nor participation in the retirement system.

This position is open until filled with applications being reviewed weekly

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Observation of Assigned Parking Station

You will observe your assigned parking station to investigate any minor maintenance issues, observe and document (as-appropriate) examples of garage misuse (e.g. improper parking, abandonment of vehicles, loitering, criminal activity) and report your findings to your supervisor.

Coordinate the Entrance and Exit of Vehicles

You will provide parking-related guidance and instruction to our visitors. This can include directing customers through Special Event procedures and collecting payment for public parking.

Troubleshoot Equipment Issues

You will identify malfunctions with gates and/or pay stations and report them to your supervisor.

Operate and Utilize Various Equipment

To aid your success in this role, you may be outfitted with such tools as a broom, a squeegee, cleaning supplies and chemicals, alarm systems, or other related tools and appropriate precautionary equipment. You will exercise all due care in the use and maintenance of these implements and the environment in which they are used to ensure the safety of everyone in the work space.

Communication

You will communicate regularly with your supervisor and convey all appropriate information. As needed, you will communicate and coordinate with your coworkers to carry out work activities, exchange information and resolve issues. When assisting the public, you will be a good ambassador for the city and, when appropriate, you’ll disseminate information to our visitors.

Reporting

You will chronicle your correspondence and checklists on an as-needed basis. When requested to do so, you will comply with providing digital and/or hardcopy records.

Tidying/Cleaning Up

You will attend to the common use surfaces and floors found in the entrances, exits, and booths near your assigned station. When requested, you will sweep, dust, polish, deodorize, disinfect, or otherwise clean as directed.

Additional Functions:

Performs other transportation/parking-related duties as required.

Education & Experience

Education: High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of related work experience preferred or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. May include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, hazardous materials, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, or disease.
