The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, promotes sustainable private sector development in developing countries.

The Legal Department of IFC (CLED), under the General Counsel, is responsible for providing legal and policy advice to the IFC Board, its Management and client departments on operational, advisory, and corporate matters.

The Legal Department (CLED) is looking for a Team Assistant who will be able to provide high-quality secretarial and general administrative support to members of her/his legal team. The selected candidate would be based in IFC HQ (Washington DC), and will report to Chief Counsel, Legal Operations, and work with the Global Lead, Knowledge Management, the CLED KM team, the CLED KM team, the E-billing team, the Legal records team, and other lawyers in the Legal Department as needed.

Role & Responsibilities:

The various duties related to the work of the department include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Draft, edit and finalize closing memos, letters, and powers of attorney using standard legal specimens;
  • Maintain and update CLED specimens, templates, and guidance notes;
  • Process (including editing, proofreading, and formatting) legal agreements accurately, independently and in a timely manner;
  • Assist on preparation/coordination of team meeting schedules, conferences, trainings/seminars, etc.
  • Proactively handle inquiries and solve non-routine problems;
  • Handle requests requiring file search using the Internet or in Legal Records;
  • Handle materials/documents with highest level of discretion;
  • Assist on special tasks as may be assigned by CLED lawyers and legal assistants;
  • Support all other aspects of CLED's activities, as needed;
  • Undertake ad-hoc duties as may be assigned

Selection Criteria

In addition, the Team/Program Assistant will be a member of the ACS support team in CLED and will be expected to assist other legal staff as required.

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years work experience in a relevant position such as administration assistance in multi-national or international organization preferred. Preferably a Diploma in Secretarial Studies or Office Management or Business Administration.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (essential);
  • Good proofreading skills;
  • Excellent office support and organizational skills, including being proactive and demonstrating the ability to prioritize and organize workloads and deliver assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure;
  • Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity in communicating tactfully and effectively with all levels of staff and external clients, both orally and in writing;
  • Willingness and flexibility to do overtime when needed, sometimes at short notice;
  • Proficient in office technology skills in particular MS Word, Outlook, Excel PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer).
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Worldox, SharePoint, SAP and other internal WBG IT systems;
  • Previous experience working with legal documents desirable.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language, particularly Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic or Russian, would be a plus.
