Systems Integration Engineer III Job at Daimler Truck North America
Inside the Role
The essential function of this position is to lead research and development of new powertrain technologies for the heavy duty truck market, focused primarily, but not exclusively, on Hydrogen Fuel Cell powertrains. The engineer will oversee early research and development of a diverse portfolio of advanced propulsion technologies including electric drive, fuel cells, advanced engines, and associated systems.

Position offers a starting salary range of $121,500- $155,500
Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience

What you drive at DTNA:
- Negotiate individual component specifications as part of a strategy to achieve overall system performance goals.
- Develop system interactions including controls strategies between the propulsion system components. - Lead the development and testing of engines, fuel cells, batteries, and e-drive axles.
- Performance Testing and success metric determination, creation of detailed test plans for advanced propulsion systems
- Data Reduction and technical leadership to help guide data science teams to create necessary analysis tools
- Analyze and provide data summaries from test activities as needed
- Design and execute vehicle tests, evaluate the overall test approach and develop new approaches to system operation and testing.
- Post-process and analyze results that quantify vehicle fuel economy, performance, and emissions. - Conduct and thoroughly document research activity, and draw conclusions. Reporting may be internal, or public for government-industry partnership projects.
- Regularly communicate work status to engineering and management, identifying project issues, delays and risks.
- Assess, summarize and communicate the powertrain market situation globally within Daimler, and in the NAFTA market with DTNA.
- Manage a support staff who will help the engineer by managing project management, timeline, budget, and inventory Responsibilities
Knowledge you should bring:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in an engineering discipline
- Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical
- Complete understanding of fundamentals of heavy duty powertrains and/or vehicles with a demonstrable grasp of thermodynamics
- Strong verbal and writing skills with the proven ability to summarize complex technical topics
- Ability to work independently without significant daily supervision.
- Knowledgeable regarding basic concepts of vehicle performance and powertrain fundamentals
- Extensive knowledge of state of the art data acquisition, reduction, and analysis tools and techniques.
- Able to generate, communicate, and implement technical ideas to continuously improve technical facets of product performance, work environment, systems, tools, and processes.
- Ability to quickly grasp powertrain technology at the level of a system development engineer.
- Ability to liaison between Detroit engineering organization and global engineering partners
Exceptional Canidates might have:
- 5-7 years of related experience preferred
- PhD. with mechanical / thermodynamic / mechatronic background.
- Prior engineering experience at engine or vehicle OEM.
- Detailed experience with data acquisition and post processing tools and techniques.
- Experience with fuel cells, batteries, or e-drive systems.
