ABOUT THE JOB
Summer Program Directors (internally referred to as “Camp Directors”) are outstanding leaders who assume overall leadership of one summer day camp location, including staff hiring and management, day-to-day operations, and creating a joy-filled summer camp culture.
YOU WILL
- You’ll receive paid professional development and management training to prepare you for camp.
- From mastering operations to nurturing and retaining staff to creating camp culture and traditions, you’ll work to identify and execute your program vision, ensuring our campers have their most magical summers ever.
- Be a supportive manager with high expectations, provide feedback on classroom instruction and support, and thoughtfully push your team to greatness in ways that have a ripple effect.
- As the face of Galileo in the community you serve consistently deliver exceptional service to our camper families.
- Masterfully manage your time and responsibilities, efficiently tracking your workflow details and calendar in the pre-season.
YOU HAVE
- College degree or equivalent work experience
- Experience working in schools, after-school programs, camps, or with K-8th grade children in another capacity and a genuine love for and interest in working with children and/or education
- Demonstrated leadership experience (management experience a plus) and ability to work collaboratively on a team, with an openness to feedback and a desire to grow professionally
- Ability to work part-time starting in late January 2023 (10-15 hours per week), and full-time in Summer
- Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, a high level of energy, and exceptional enthusiasm each day
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification OR ability to become certified prior to the start of camp
- (CA only) Valid Mandatory Report Certification OR ability to complete certification prior to the start of camp

COMPENSATION AND PERKS
- Total compensation is expected to range from $8,600 - $14,000 for this seasonal position; this is a good faith estimate, exact pay will be determined based on a variety of factors including length of program, bonus earnings, and years of employment with Galileo Camps.
- Leadership & Pre-camp Training is paid at an hourly rate of $20.
- Summer Camp weeks are salaried, starting at $1,200/ week with performance and enrollment bonuses!

Work Location
Pre-camp: With the exception of weekend retreats and occasional events, pre-camp season work is done remotely.
During camp: Summer Camp weeks are fully on-site. You’ll be placed at one of our 50+in-person sites throughout the SF Bay Area, Southern California, Chicago, or Seattle. (Please note that Galileo Camps does not provide housing for Summer Day Camp roles.)
We are only able to employ candidates who are based in the following states: California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, or Washington.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Depending on your role and/or work location, your employment is contingent upon having a valid CPR certification (which will be communicated at the time of your offer). You can get certified easily and for a small fee ($14.95) through the National CPR Foundation. Otherwise, any OSHA-compliant CPR certification is acceptable. Please note: you will not be eligible for reimbursement for this employment requirement.
If you will be working in California, you will be required to have a Mandated Reporter certification. This is required for all individuals working with children. If you are not already certified, you can take a course through the Mandated Reporter website. This certification will be valid indefinitely and can be used for other employment opportunities. Proof of certification will be required during your onboarding process. Please note: you will not be eligible for reimbursement for this employment requirement.
During your onboarding process, you may need to complete a Tuberculosis (TB) screening and a fingerprinting background check, which will require you to visit one of our specified vendor locations. Please be advised that this must be completed prior to your first day of work, otherwise it will impact your ability to join us on your specified start date. More details will be provided during your onboarding process.
