ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY Cal Poly Pomona Foundation is currently searching for multiple Student Weekend Feeders to work at the W. K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center.
The W. K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center (AHC), is dedicated to promoting the legacy of the Kellogg Arabians by providing a venue where students and the public can learn more about the Arabian Horses. The AHC provides an environment where students can learn about the Arabian Horses and the horse industry, supports the learn-by-doing educational mission of the University, and continues the tradition of breeding and raising high quality show horses.
Accepted candidates acknowledge that as the representative face of the Arabian Horse Center and the University, they shall endeavor to maintain the highest degree of professionalism at all times.
ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
The Student Weekend Feeder will work primarily outdoors feeding & watering horses, and cleaning stalls. Additional duties include but are not limited to: visual inspection of horses in pasture and in stalls for health-related matters, ability to identify & report horse health concerns, clean water troughs, rake barn aisles, and perform minor property maintenance. Candidate must have the ability to adapt to changing work conditions such as: working around horses of all ages from new-born to senior, sun exposure, high temperatures, cold weather, rain, wind, dust, pollen, insects, and lifting and maneuvering heavy objects up to 50 pounds such as hay bales and wheelbarrows. Working on weekends and holidays is a part of this position
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED. Enrolled Cal Poly Pomona student.
- Previous horse experience
- Safety oriented
- Willingness to learn
- Attention to detail
- Self-motivated, observant, efficient
- Excellent communication skills
- Dedicated to teamwork
- Driver’s license/reliable transportation
