Position Details:

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (COM) seeks a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor to serve as a Speech Language Pathologist to be appointed within the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, joining an interdisciplinary medical team specializing in assessment and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and neurodevelopmental disorders. The COM is establishing a clinical and research-based program of excellence in ASD and neurodevelopmental disorders to provide clinical education, direct clinical services, and community outreach with clinical partners to advance the mission of the college and university in sustaining health for residents of Washington State. WSU, a land grant institution seeks to enhance the capacity of future healthcare providers in the effective assessment and treatment of children with ASD and neurodevelopmental disorders to address a shortage of skilled providers with expertise in this area, and to advance clinical service delivery to rural and underserved communities.

The position of Speech-Language Pathologist/Clinical Assistant Professor within the ASD & Neurodevelopmental Disorders Program of Excellence will be part of a multidisciplinary evaluation team (MDT) involved in the direct evaluation, preventative care, and treatment of children between birth-18 years of age. In partnership with the Range Community Clinic, this position is responsible for working in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians and faculty experts in providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment for ASD, and evaluation and consultation for children with neurodevelopmental disorders which may be associated with rare disease and genetic conditions, and support clinical triaging with community health care providers. This position involves direct patient care and clinical supervision of graduate students from the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. Additional responsibilities include didactic and interdisciplinary seminar teaching, community outreach, and participation on WSU and interinstitutional clinical research teams. This position will have a 12-month faculty appointment in the ESFCOM and report directly to the Chair of the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. Clinical obligations will be conducted in compliance with Range Community Clinic, following all clinic procedures required for provision of patient care, and in collaboration with the Co-Directors of the ASD & Neurodevelopmental Disorders Program of Excellence leadership team.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

• PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences; Masters level candidates may be eligible depending upon experience.
  
• Current national certification by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (CCC's).
  
• Licensed speech-language pathologist in the state of Washington or ability to obtain licensure in WA State.
  
• Current HIPAA training and updated ESFCOM HIPAA training to be completed within 30 days of hire.
  
• Five years or more of substantial experience with neurodevelopmental conditions such as assessing, or treating children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and/or other neurodevelopmental conditions
  
• Demonstrated expertise in current assessment and treatment approaches for ASD, including trained in administration of Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS).
  
• Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in speech-language pathology.
  
• Ability to provide face to face treatment and remote-based treatment and consultation.
  
• Expertise in ASD clinical service and treatment, demonstrated at the national level (i.e., presentations at ASHA or other organizations affiliated with the treatment of ASD and/or communication disorders).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Dual certification Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)/Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credentials.
  
• Prior experience in a clinical model with a focus on multidisciplinary assessment for ASD.
  
• Trained to level of "research reliable" in ADOS assessment.
  
• Prior experience being part of a clinical research team associated with ASD research and/or scholarly work in ASD.
  
• Demonstrated experience with three years or more of clinical supervision of graduate students in speech-language pathology.

Department and College:

The ASD & Neurodevelopmental Disorders Program of Excellence will be housed in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences (SHS). SHS is one of five departments in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, located on a beautiful and growing health science campus that also includes Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, and Education. Department faculty have extra- and intramural research funding in autism, hearing impairment, childhood apraxia and dysarthria in rare diseases, automatic speech recognition, and speech electrophysiology. SHS faculty provide clinical education and research experiences for students within and outside of the department, holding many long-standing relationships with clinical partners and school districts in the eastern Washington region and across the State. This new program will integrate direct service, clinical research opportunities, and community education in collaboration with these community partners.

Annual Salary Range: $75,000- $90,000 dependent on qualifications.

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
