Salary:
Responsible for ensuring fulfillment of all goals and objectives under the NewSTEPs Cooperative Agreement, Goal 3 around Technical Assistance. This goal specifically includes maintaining a dynamic national newborn screening technical assistance resource center that proactively provides training, addresses challenges, and supports newborn screening systems improvement.
The Specialist is responsible for leading all short term follow-up (STFU) technical assistance and serving as the program subject matter expert on STFU. With a perennial member focus on the (public health) laboratory, the transition to include a member base including short term follow-up program staff requires a dedicated and consistent effort from the Specialist, especially to tap into the requirements of this stakeholder group and to communicate them to the NewSTEPs manager and the NBSG manager for the purpose of informing content for the APHL NBSG and other related national activities.
Customer Service and Relationship Building
Develops relationships with public health newborn screening programs, follow-up staff, patient advocacy groups and clinical networks. Works closely with internal programs including Public Policy, Communications, Legal, Accounting, and Marketing, as well as external partners and members, including but not limited to the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics and the Genetic Alliance. Responds to requests for materials and information about program activities in writing, by phone and by email. Provides members and partners with appropriate information regarding program activities.
Works on and oversees fulfillment of day-to-day administrative and organizational support for the Newborn Screening and Genetics Program. This includes overseeing the timely and accurate scheduling and coordinating of national meetings and trainings, conference calls, online meetings, and webinars, notifying the participants, sending out the agendas, etc. Records minutes and notes from meetings and calls and makes them available to program staff and participants in a timely fashion. Posts, organizes, and maintains and electronic files. Prepares correspondences, reports, presentations, graphics, etc. Formats reports. Posts information to listserv and website. Updates contact lists. Processes and approves expense reports and invoices.
Independently oversees administration, security and management of the NewSTEPs ColLABorate forum (listserv) and works with the NewSTEPs data team to accurately track all relevant threads and responses.
Serves as the team leader for remaining up-to-date and abreast of all changes and updates as they pertain to information systems utilized within the program, including but not limited to SharePoint management, Rev transcription services, Zoom webinar platform.

Position Summary:
The Specialist, NewSTEPs is responsible for leading the management of all objectives and activities that fall within the goal of NewSTEPs Technical Assistance. This position will independently manage several complex projects and oversee complex governance-related activities all with a focus on the technical assistance provided by the Newborn Screening Technical assistance and Evaluation Program (NewSTEPs) to APHL-member newborn screening programs and public health laboratories. The Specialist will also oversee all administrative activities related to the NewSTEPs Cooperative agreement.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Project Management

This position also leads, manages and ensures timely execution of all project activities with appropriate engagement from partners, funders, APHL staff and stakeholders, synthesizes information and provides high-level reports to the Manager.
Oversight of the Newborn Screening Short Term Follow-Up Technical Assistance
The Specialist is responsible for leading all short term follow-up (STFU) technical assistance and serving as the program subject matter expert on STFU. Oversees the development, management, and updates to contracts/sub-awards relevant partners required to execute technical assistance activities (i.e., faculty for training workshops, evaluation contractors, and education contractors). Works routinely with the grants/contracts and legal program to independently develop, track and manage related contracts and contract payment activities.
