JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE OF JOB: Special Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Valid/current New Mexico teaching license with appropriate endorsement. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
OBJECTIVE OF JOB: To meet the needs and provide services to exceptional
Children, that are in addition to, supplementary with, or different from the regular school program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attendance:

  • Adheres to district leave policy
  • Punctual to job assignments and meetings
  • Maintains physical stamina to meet demands of the job
  • Other duties as assigned by building Principal

Instructional Planning:

  • Maintains clear and up-to-date lesson plans, records and reports
  • Relate plans to clearly defined objectives consistent with curriculum and Common Core State Standards
  • Make effective use of planning time
  • Use test results to diagnose and prescribe what needs to be done to improve a situation, action, or achievement
  • Provide effective home/school communication
  • Seek assistance and advice of professional staff when appropriate
  • Take advantage of professional development opportunities when available
  • Management of student data system for grades and attendance
  • Support and cooperate with ancillary, regular ed., and all other personnel involved with students
  • Conduct effective and efficient Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings

Instructional Methods/Classroom Management:

  • Provide information in a clear and concise manner, using multi-sensory approach
  • Use words and content appropriate to the subject area and ability of students
  • Monitor all non-direct teacher activities for their usefulness and appropriateness
  • Aid students in developing positive self-concepts
  • Maintain a high level of time on task and redirects students who are off task
  • Maintain a positive classroom atmosphere conducive to effective learning.
  • Administer fair and consistent discipline
  • Use technology to enhance curriculum
  • Provide modifications and/or adaptations of instructional techniques, materials and equipment, depending on the student's identified needs in the areas of social, physical, motor, academic, or self-help
  • Work with trans-disciplinary teams to formulate and implement the IBP for each child
  • Provide appropriate inclusion opportunities for exceptional children to be educated with regular education peers
  • Assume all other responsibilities as directed by the Building Principal or Superintendent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with BOE policy.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $50,000.00 - $84,176.00 per year
