Preschool Special Education Aide

This position reports to the Preschool Principal and is under the supervision of the classroom teacher/Intensive Skills Teacher.

Job Summary

The Preschool Special Education Aide provides direct services to preschool students both in the regular classroom and in special education settings.

Contractual Relationship

The Preschool Special Education Aide is employed by the district through yearly appointments and is compensated in accordance with hourly rates established by the Agreement Between the Lincoln Education Support Professionals Barginging Unit of the Lincoln Educators Association and the Lincoln School Committee.

Responsibilities

1. Provides direct support to preschool students. Engage students: model and encourage language, facilitate social interactions/play and support them in problem solving.

2. Promotes and facilitates appropriate social interaction and behavioral compliance for students. Follow through with expectations by using choices, visuals and positive reinforcement.

3. Facilitate increasing the independence of preschool students by supporting them in completing activities of daily living (putting away/managing their belongings, toileting and handwashing etc.)

4. Provides direct support to individuals and small groups of students based on Individual Education Programs (IEPs).

5. Prepares instruction materials according to teacher guidelines.

6. Under the direction of the classroom teacher and/or Intensive Skills Teacher, implements all accommodations and modifications according to a student’s IEP.

7. Performs other tasks assigned by the Preschool Coordinator and the preschool teaching team.
