Position Description
The Solar PV Designer will be responsible for designing PV systems by creating layouts for
residential projects. The position requires the ability to develop a system design from photos
and survey information of the jobs site. The ability to be detail-oriented with projects is a must;
the ideal candidate will be able to manage a large volume of projects while demonstrating
excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Create and format drawing sets used to secure permit and complete installation
- Work with building departments, utilities, or other AHJ to ensure compliance with local
and national building codes - Oversee CAD process
- Serve as a liaison between field technicians, department management, government
bodies, and customers - Consistently meet the overall project deadlines in a timely and accurate manner
- Use AutoCAD and other design software to produce complete PV system electrical
designs, utility interconnection drawings, lighting designs, site layout drawings, zoning
permit packages, and other deliverables - Coordinate with outside design consultants for structural and racking designs, including
review of design drawings and calculations - Assist with compiling and submitting building and zoning permit packages
- Assist in the compilation of bills of material, customer operation and maintenance
manuals, and other documentation to assist field construction teams - Array layouts, wire runs, interconnections and one-line diagrams
- Review building codes and implement new requirements as needed
- Prepare and/or revise residential plan sets for photovoltaic, battery and generator
system installation utilizing Aurora. Plan sets include electrical schematics, structural
details, and equipment specifications - Work with and provide technical assistance to project coordinators, customers, and
other departments as needed - Maintain current knowledge of the NEC and all building codes applicable for proper
solar, and electrical system designs - Provide other work as necessary to assist permitting, proposals, and technical
information aspects of solar system design and production - Understands how to size systems
- Perform additional duties as assigned and/or directed
Job Qualifications
- Must have PV Design experience
- Familiar with AHJ Corrections
- Familiar with Aurora Solar Software
- At least 2 years of experience in AutoCAD 2D
- Familiarity with dimensioning, scaling, and CAD standards
- Detail-oriented with an emphasis in automation
- Organized, able to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Must work well in a team environment, as well as independently
- Sound decision making ability
- Experience creating complete drawing sets
- Familiarity with residential construction and wood framing
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical design preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communications
- String sizing knowledge
- Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel)
Education
- AutoCAD Certification a plus
- NABCEP Certification a plus
- Bachelor's or Associates degree preferred
