Shop Mechanic Job at Oklahoma County
The Shop Mechanic will be responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include, but are not limited to the following: Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble; maintains records of inspection of trucks, equipment, etc. Operates diagnostic equipment to ascertain necessary repairs. Communicates with driver/operator to determine suspected malfunction in operation of vehicle/equipment. Dismantles and replaces devices to gain access to, remove, and replace defective parts. Examines form and texture of parts to remove defects or imperfections. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments. Starts devices to test their performance. Repairs or replaces defective parts; installs special functional and structural parts in devices; lubricates and cleans parts, cleans tools, and ensures that shop area is maintained in a clean, orderly and safe manner. Makes repairs on electrical equipment. Maintains on-going shop security, safe working conditions, and adherence to shop and policies and procedures, and conforms to the safety guidelines set by Oklahoma County, State and Federal law. Maintains regular attendance at work and is consistently on-time. Maintains and participates as a team member of the Oklahoma County District 2 Highway Department. Serves the county and public in a professional manner as a representative of the Oklahoma County District 2 Highway Department and staff Must be able to be present at the designated work site a minimum of 40 hours per workweek, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with a half-hour lunchbreak, unless different time directed or approved by the Shop Foreman. Emergencies require 24 hour on call. Executes personnel policies in accordance with established procedures; maintains time sheets, records sick leave, vacation, compensatory time, etc.; maintains production records. Confers with supervisors of other departments to coordinate joint projects Other duties as related and assigned.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of responsible experience in the field of automotive/diesel, heavy equipment diagnostics, repair and maintenance. Knowledge of Tools, Mechanical Inspection and documentation skills a must. Should have strong attention to detail, strong technical understanding and excellent customer service and verbal communication.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), supplemented by courses at a Vo-Tech or trade school in automotive/diesel repair and maintenance. Clean driving record. Valid Oklahoma State Class Commercial Driver’s License (or ability to obtain in 6 months or less). Hazmat endorsement highly desired. Some knowledge/experience with computers and software is preferred. Having own tools is required. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
